Austro launches new rotary engine for light sport jet market

Austro, a sister company to Diamond Aircraft launched a new rotary engine for the light sport jet market. The sister company 'bench-tested' the AE80R engine recently. The Austrian company says the engine's target weight is 27kg (60lb) with a power output of 80hp (60kW).

The head of Diamond Aircraft and Austro, Christian Dries, says the engine..."has the potential be one of the market-leading engines "in the extremely weight sensitive" light sport and ultralight aircraft markets. "The engine has no vibration and therefore it is ideal to power unmanned aerial vehicles with highly sensitive equipment," adds Dries.

Diamond Jet 'temporarily' lays of staff from its Canada operation

Diamond Aircraft continues to struggle with the slack business aviation market conditions and has apparently been forced to lay off staff. It is said that the layoffs only affect the Canada operations and not the Austria factory which is independently owned and operated. The D-Jet program seems to have suffered as well being suspended at the moment.

Diamond Aircraft announces that it has secured European certification for its DA62 at the recently concluded AERO 2015 in Germany. It also used the event to formerly unfold the order book for the seven-seat piston-twin aircraft. “We have already received a lot of interest in the aircraft, but we haven’t wanted to take anyone’s money until we are sure what we can deliver and when,” says Diamond Aircraft chief executive Christian Dries. For those not in the 'know', the DA62 was actually known as the DA52 before and represents the largest aircraft in the Diamond company's line.

Wanfeng acquires majority stake in Diamond Canada. This is big news for fans of the Diamond Aircraft company with move. Wanfeng Aviation Canada is a subsidiary of the Wanfeng Auto Group in China and they recently moved to acquire a 60 percent shareholding in Diamond Canada. This would naturally mean great injection of investment into Diamond and could possibly see the regeneration of the D-Jet program (although that is not promised). As part of the deal, Wanfeng, a manufacturer of parts for both the car and aviation industries, has secured the rights to the DA62 six-seat piston-twin and DA40 four-seat piston single programmes from Diamond’s independently owned Austrian sibling Diamond Aircraft Industries. Production of the two models will be transferred to Ontario in 2017. The DA42 production will remain in Austria.

With Garmin announcing the release of the Garmin G1000 NXi at the start of this year, a number of manufacturers have stepped onboard to replaced the avionics suite of models that carried the legacy G1000 flight deck. Diamond Aircraft is another airframer that is doing this and their piston-engined line will be the candidates for the upgrade. Upgrades are scheduled to commence in June!

Diamond Aircraft has selected Premier Aircraft Sales to be the exclusive Diamond Aircraft dealer for the Bahamas. Premier Aircraft is now exclusively representing 19 U.S. States in the Northeast, Southeast and Central U.S., along with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. "Southern Florida has always been a gateway to the Bahamas and having Premier Aircraft represent sales and service in this region is a natural fit," said Scott McFadzean, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. "Private aviation continues to gain momentum and the twin engine DA62 or new single engine DA50 RG, coming to the North American market in early 2022, are the perfect aircraft to take full advantage of the Caribbean. Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, system integration went flawless in all directions. Considering that it is the first customer aircraft and involved numerous parties from various countries, it cannot be taken as given but once again demonstrates the strength of Diamond’s Special Mission Aircraft Division, to act as the single point of contact towards the customer in order to provide a ready-to-fly turnkey solution. The initial configuration features a multi sensor setup for simultaneous data acquisition. The Universal Nose mount will carry an airborne LiDAR system from Riegl, while the 20“hatch will be equipped with the latest Large Format Camera System from Vexcel Imaging in combination with Somag’s GSM4000 gyro-stabilized mount and an IGI Flight Management System. This configuration allows a total endurance of 7 hours including a 2 men crew. The design allows for quick configuration changes, for example to replace the Large Format Camera in the hatch with the LiDAR from the Universal Nose.

Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. and Blue Line Aviation recently signed an order for 50 Diamond Aircraft. These include the single engine DA40 NG’s, twin engine DA42-VI’s and a Diamond Simulator. There is also option for up to 50 additional aircraft should they need them. "I’m thankful to everyone that has played a part in making Blue Line what it is today. We couldn’t have done it without the hard work of our staff, students, and friends at Diamond Aircraft," said Trey Walters, CEO and Founder of Blue Line Aviation. "Currently, we train approximately 40 full time students at a time in our 5.5 month career pilot course. We expect to triple that, or more, with the new aircraft and recently announced full student financing. We’ve been able to change lives through flight training and do some good in the world. At the end of the day, that’s what matters."
