Bombardier has surprising reduced the first flight window time for the delayed Learjet 85 programme to sometime before the end of this year. Bombardier has had a few problems with the on-time entry of some of its new models. Unlike the LearJet 85's sister CSeries programme, Bombardier has never specified a month or a quarter as the target date for the maiden flight of the midsize, all-composite business jet. So technically it doesn't appear as terrible a flop as for the CSeries. The Learjet 85 was originally scheduled for late-2013 however, problems with the high-tech composite manufacturing set the programme back six-to-nine-months until the third quarter of 2014. Now it has been narrowed.

Construction has begun on the new CSeries final assembly plant that is sized to support production of at least 120 aircraft per year, Bombardier says. The 667,000ft² (62,000m²) factory doubles the company's industrial complex in Mirabel, where it also builds CRJ regional jets. Including office space, the entire industrial complex in Mirabel will rise to 1.5 million square feet.

Bombardier Aerospace Wins 2013 Masters North American Award for Safety Management System

The Master of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN) has awarded Bombardier Aerospace the Master’s North American Award for its industry contributions to air and ground safety practices. “Following a comprehensive review of several strong candidates, we are delighted to recognize Bombardier Aerospace for its impressive Safety Management System (SMS): a systematic, explicit and comprehensive lifelong process for managing safety risks beyond regulatory compliance,” said His Honour Tudor Owen, Master. “Bombardier’s SMS encompasses all aspects of the product lifecycle from design, manufacture and maintenance to flight operations, airport operations, training and parts distribution, and after-life through a centralized Employee Safety Reporting System and seven SMS Standards,” he added.

Founded in London in 1929, the Guild aims to promote the highest standards of flight safety, training and education. Recognition of achievements in aviation is an important aspect of the Guild’s role, each year it presents a number of awards to those who have made a significant contribution to the aviation industry. “This is a tribute to all our employees who play such a leading role in the advancement of our safety culture with customers, throughout our industry, and across all of Bombardier Aerospace,” said Stephen Orr, Vice President, Quality and Safety Office, Bombardier Aerospace. “Earning this special recognition represents a noteworthy accomplishment.”

Bombardier SMS central themes involve active hazard identification, risk management and performance measurement. To ensure a common standard for safety, all employees in Bombardier Aerospace across the globe undergo a Safety Program either individually with SMS Awareness Training, or collectively via “Aviation Safety Weeks”. To further promote safety culture, individuals and groups are regularly recognized for their contributions to this critically important mission. This award also marks the second major safety award for Bombardier Aerospace in as many years. In 2011, Flight Safety Foundation awarded the Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award to Bombardier Aerospace for Safety Standdown, staged annually in Wichita, Geneva, Sao Paulo and Shanghai, which typically draws more than 450 corporate, commercial and military attendees.

GAPAN is a collaborative international repository of experienced aviation professionals. Its mission includes the relentless pursuit of the highest standards of airmanship and aviation safety. In addition to the many historic Trophies and Awards in a variety of areas from which the GAPAN executive can draw, regional awards were instituted to ensure each of GAPAN’s five international regions (Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, the Unites States and New Zealand) has its own trophy, to be awarded annually and entirely at the discretion of the Regional Executive, to recognize worthy achievement by any individual or group in the Region.

Bombardier has launched a push to regain market share in the Brazilian market by restoring a long-dormant alliance with the country's largest sales agent. The Belo Horizonte-based Líder Aviação introduced the first Learjet aircraft in Brazil in 1968 and served as a sales agent until 1999, when the company switched to represent Raytheon Aircraft before it became Hawker Beechcraft.

Air Canada is studying Bombardier's new CSeries jet as it focuses on deciding by the end of the year which narrow-body to purchase for its fleet, the airline's chief executive said. "It's a big, big decision because it's more than 100 airplanes total," CEO Calin Rovinescu told reporters at the opening of a new operations centre near Toronto's Pearson Airport. Bombardier expects the single-aisle CSeries, with up to 160 seats, to make its first test flight in the next few months and to be in service about a year later.

A big purchase by Air Canada would do much to bolster the CSeries' disappointing order book. Montreal-based Bombardier had announced 177 firm CSeries orders by late July, well short of its target of at least 300 firm orders by the middle of next year. It failed to firm up new business at this summer's Paris Air Show even as its competitors announced big orders.

Third edition of the Bombardier Aerospace BASE awards: four suppliers honored

ombardier Aerospace is proud to announce the 2012 winners of its Bombardier Achieving Supplier Excellence (BASE) recognition program acknowledging suppliers that support Bombardier’s strategy of delivering an amazing customer experience through superior performance. These suppliers have distinguished themselves through their high quality and delivery standards in 2012.

The recipients of the third edition of the BASE awards are the following four supplier sites:

PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA CORP. (Longueuil, Québec, Canada)
ROCKWELL COLLINS AEROSPACE & ELECTRONICS, INC. (Wilsonville, Oregon, US)
RTI CLARO INC. (Laval, Québec, Canada)
THALES CANADA INC. (St-Laurent, Québec, Canada)
For the first time since the inception of the BASE program, the performance of one supplier site, Rockwell Collins Aerospace & Electronics, Inc., has earned the BASE silver level of distinction. It is worth noting that RTI Claro’s is mentored by Bombardier Aerospace as part of the Aéro Montréal MACH initiative.

“Bombardier Aerospace’s success can only be as strong as the engagement and performance of all its stakeholders – and that includes our suppliers,” said Kristopher Pinnow, Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Aerospace. “With the BASE program, we measure our supplier’s performance with transparent, real time, fact-based data. These four suppliers have demonstrated an unwavering commitment towards providing an amazing customer experience, and their BASE awards recognizes their efforts.” The BASE recognition program was launched in 2011 and has since then rewarded the performance of 26 supplier sites.

Bombardier Aerospace names the 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) supplier award winners

For the third consecutive year, Bombardier Aerospace has unveiled the winners of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) supplier recognition program, which acknowledges suppliers who distinguish themselves through relentless focus on CSR.

The 2012 CSR supplier awards go to Pratt & Whitney Canada, Aernnova Aerospace and Eaton Aerospace.

“Bombardier Aerospace is shaping the future of mobility, responsibly,” said Kristopher Pinnow, Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Aerospace. “And our suppliers also understand the importance of being dedicated to observing more sustainable practices. This award is a tribute to our suppliers’ strategic contribution to Bombardier’s CSR stewardship and to their commitment towards achieving a more sustainable global supply chain.”

The CSR supplier award is a testament to suppliers’ CSR achievements in line with Bombardier’s six CSR pillars (governing effectively, valuing employees, building responsible products, operating sustainably, engaging suppliers and acting as a responsible corporate citizen). The recognition program is based on a robust evaluation process where its top suppliers are surveyed on quantifiable CSR achievements.

The Bombardier Aerospace CSR supplier award was launched in 2011 and has since been awarded to 10 suppliers.

In 2013, Bombardier was named one of Canada’s top five most attractive employers by Randstad Canada. It has also entered in the Euronext Vigeo World 120 index (a sustainability index launched in November 2012 by NYSE Euronext, the world’s largest exchange group, and Vigeo, the leading European expert in responsible performance) to promote and support responsible investment, was ranked 11th on Corporate Knights’ 2013 Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada, and was included in Sustainalytics’ 2013 list of the 50 Most Socially Responsible Corporations in Canada.

Bombardier to Showcase Q400 NextGen Turboprop Airliner and CSeries Aircraft Cockpit and Cabin Demonstrators at Moscow Air Show

ombardier Aerospace announced today that it will showcase its Q400 NextGen aircraft, as well as the cockpit and full-scale cabin demonstrators for its all-new CSeries jetliner at the 2013 International Aviation and Space Salon - MAKS 2013 - at Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport from August 27 to September 1. This will be the first appearance of the demonstrators and the airliner at the Salon. The Q400 NextGen airliner has excellent fuel and cost efficiencies, and is the only turboprop that offers jet-like speed (360 knots/667 km/h) and the flexibility to supplement jet service. Its performance capabilities, outstanding environmental qualities and product commonality across the Bombardier Q-Series family of aircraft make it an ideal aircraft for diverse operations worldwide and it is well suited for airlines operating within the Russian Federation. The Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft program currently includes some 50 customers and operators in 35 countries on five continents.

Visitors of the CSeries aircraft demonstrators will be able to sit in the pilot’s seat and experience first-hand the optimized design of the aircraft’s full-scale, fully equipped, innovative flight deck. The CSeries aircraft’s cabin was designed with flexibility and customization in mind and the cabin demonstrator is set up with a variety of seat selections and layouts from business class to all-economy, allowing visitors to experience the single-aisle CSeries aircraft’s widebody-type environment and comfort. Bombardier Commercial Aircraft also produces the CRJ regional jet family – 70-seat CRJ700 NextGen, 88-seat CRJ900 NextGen and 100-seat CRJ1000 NextGen jetliners, which are all designed for hub expansion and point-to-point services. The CRJ700, CRJ900 and CRJ1000 regional jets all have best-in-class operating costs, fuel burn and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as commonality in several areas with the CRJ100 and CRJ200 aircraft. More than 80 CRJ100 and CRJ200 aircraft are operating in Russia and other countries in the CIS. “The CSeries, CRJ NextGen and Q400 NextGen families of commercial aircraft represent the broadest portfolio of commercial aircraft in the 20- to 149-seat categories,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “They offer great performance and economics, and position us well in the market with solid, long-term prospects. Bombardier has the products and the customer support network to assist operators in Russia and other CIS countries now and into the future.”

Bombardier’s commitment to bringing sales, marketing and customer services functions closer to the homes of its operators includes Russia and the CIS. The growing support infrastructure in the region includes a Regional Support Office in Moscow operated by Bombardier Aerospace Services Russia LLC and an Authorized Service Facility in Kazan. An expanding sales and marketing office in Moscow operated by Bombardier Aerospace Marketing Russia LLC is home to a growing team that is highly experienced in the regional market.

Currently, more than 120 Q-Series, CRJ and CSeries aircraft are in service with, or have been ordered by, 14 operators in Russia and five other CIS countries. Bombardier’s Commercial Aircraft Market Forecast 2013-2032 covers the 20- to 149-seat market and expects Russia/CIS to take deliveries of 740 aircraft over the 20-year forecast period. This represents approximately 5.8 per cent of the expected 12,800 deliveries worldwide.
