Problems hit Qatar airways' intentions on becoming one of the world's largest air freight companies. See Qatar Airways had ambitions to purchase the Luxembourg freight company CargoLux, however, talks and plans seem to have fallen out the cargo hold. CargoLux is reported as saying, "Cargolux Airlines International confirmed that Qatar Airways intends to exit its 35 percent shareholding in Cargolux..."

A spokesperson for CargoLux said, "the Luxembourg and Qatari shareholders disagreed on the future strategic orientation of the airline, which led to Qatar's decision to pull out of Cargolux..."

Airbus looking to raise the A330 take-off weight and also looking to offer high fuel capacity to the A330-300 variant. Airbus's latest enhancements will extend the range of the A330-300 by 500nm (930km) over the 235t model, and by 350nm for the 238t A330-200 at full passenger load. More power to you commercial pilots out there.

Qatar airways seems to be converting almost all their A350-800 orders to A350-1000 variants. Airbus must be pleased and not pleased at the same time with this development. I think 17 of the 20 orders will convert into the 1000 variant and the other 3 (800) variants convert into the 900 variant so out of that batch, Airbus lost all orders for the A350-800 model as far as Qatar Airways is concerned.

Many airlines are favouring the new Boeing 737 MAX variant aircraft to modernize their fleet with. Icelandair is no exception, they are at least tentatively looking at these aircraft to operate alongside their 757 fleet. The carrier has signed a commitment for 12 aircraft likely comprising eight 737-8s and four 737-9s - and is taking purchase rights on another 12 as options in the short term.

Germanwings has received the first aircraft in the new company livery. The aircraft sporting the new livery is an A319. In case you didn't know, Germanwings is the low-cost subsidiary of Lufthansa. They rebranded on December 6 and also highlighted next year's takeover of significant portions of its parent company's European network.

Afriqiyah, the Libyan carrier also gets a new makeover with new livery. The new livery was unveilved at the Rixos Al Nasr Hotel, Tripoli on 19 December. The tail of the aircraft is the essence of the new livery with a black base and three distinct blue markings said to represent the neck-markings on the Turtle Dove. Apparently the airline had been voluntarily banned from EU airspace but the airline hopes to resume European services in January 2013. It will initially target direct flights to Paris, Rome, London and Manchester.

Now, you have heard about deer whistles for your car but bird Whistles for airplanes? I guess that is what certain people are thinking these days. This isn't no 'fly-away' joke, it's actually in the works! Whether or not this little device will fly successfully is another matter but I still think, birds will still continue to be ingested and as well as other birdstrikes.
