Airbus A350 XWB at Paris Air Show?

EADS boss Tom Enders is not saying anything concrete but seems to be making hits at the Airbus A350 XWB being at the 2013 Paris Air Show in June. Of course this would just be speculation because Airbus suggested that the A350 will fly for the first time in 'mid 2013' probably in July or August. So do not hold your breath on seeing this bird at the Paris Air Show, unless Airbus is trying to trick us all.

There is a rumour flying around that Irish carrier Ryanair is set to make a large order for the successful Boeing 737 aircraft. The Irish airline however, has no comment on the rumour, as they do not respond to speculation. In the same breath, supposedly this would end the long need for the airline wanting new aircraft. It was being suggested that the airline would make an order for 200 new aircraft but for which airframer are they going to go to if they do? Airbus distanced themselves and said they were not in any talks with Ryanair about new aircraft. That only leaves Boeing and their 737-800s OR the re-engined 737 MAX.

Lion Air confirms firm order for 234 Airbus twin-jet aircraft. These will be 174 of the re-engined A320neo and 65 of them will be A321neo. 60 will also be the normal A320 variant. As you can imagine these orders will take quite a while to fill out, in fact, from 2014 though 2026. $24 billion dollars is the estimated value of the new Lion Air order.

Low cost carrier EasyJet to abandon check in desks?

Seems like low-cost carrier EasyJet is planning to abandon physical check-in desks. From April 30, bag-drop desks will instead replace these desks, for fliers wanting to travel with checked luggage. Ryanair has also gone this route and for them if you forget to print your boarding pass, Ryanair slaps you with a £70 fine. Let's hope EasyJet doesn't go this way.

Looks like Ryanair may well be giving its cabin crew a wage increase come April 1st. Where existing long-term pay deals were due to expire in April the company has agreed to pay out increases to cabin crew across the board. It is expected to be 10% increases over four years and have increases in supervisory roles as well as other allowances generally.

Remember that huge deal that Lion Air made with Airbus recently for A320-family jets? Well that has allowed the airframer's first-quarter net order total to soar to 410 aircraft. Airbus delivered 144 aircraft over the same period, up from the 131 it had achieved at the same point in 2012. The deliveries included four A380s, two of which went to Malaysia Airlines, one for Thai Airways and the other for China Southern Airlines.

Order boost for British Airways with Boeing 787 aircraft. International Airlines Group has ordered 18 more Boeing 787 aircraft for British Airways taking the overall order for the type aircraft to 42 and well up from the airline's initial 24-plane order for the type. There is also options to purchase 787s for Spanish subsidiary Iberia, however, only if that Spanish company does better, financially.

Turkish Airlines is expected to order as many as 95 Boeing 737s of which 75 are the re-engined 737 MAX family. It's a bit of a shock because they agreed to take the Airbus A320neo.

Qatar Airways wants to seek compensation for the grounding of its 787-8 aircraft from Boeing. "I will not be honest if I say we will not take any compensation from Boeing. We will," says the carrier's chief executive Akbar Al Baker today at an event in Chicago marking the airline's inaugural flight to the city on 10 April. "What will be the compensation? What will be the size, I rather not discuss this in public," he adds.

According to the CEO, their expansion plans have been seriously disrupted by the world wide grounding of the type aircraft. "We had to reschedule several expansion plans, downgrade capacity into markets in order to keep the integrity of our network," he adds.
Boeing remains very optimistic that the type will return to the skies very soon.

Airbus has announced that they will be installing larger seats designed for larger people on their Flagship model the A380. The European plane manufacturer announced plans to offer airlines the flexibility of having extra-wide chairs on its A380 aircraft as an option to respond directly to demographic trends and to accommodate large travellers. This was disclosed at Hamburg’s Aircraft Interiors Expo this week. The seats will be a whole 2 inches wider than the standard 18'' seat.

FAA Issues Boeing 737 Airworthiness Directive

In a bold and decisive move by the United States Federal Aviation Adinistration (FAA), over 1,000 Boeing 737 aircraft are expected to be rigorously inspected. The 737 inspection programme will look for the presence of faulty tail components with the potential to cause serious aircraft accidents. They will be looking at fixing pins in general and in detail. A total of 1,050 Boeing 737s in general U.S airline service from May 20 and onwards are expected to be inspected, the FAA stated.

Boeing scales back production on Boeing 747-8I and F models

Boeing said it is going to cut the production rate for the latest version of the 747 jumbo jet from roughly two aircraft per month down to 1.75 aircraft as a result of lower demand for large passenger and cargo planes.
