Holding Firm: Cessna Citation M2 in European market

  1. Cessna Sees Strong European Future for Citation M2

Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, said today at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) that the company foresees a strong European future for the planned light business jet, the Citation M2, scheduled to enter service in 2013. Speaking at EBACE, Joe Hepburn, Cessna’s senior vice president, Customer Service, said: “There is already significant interest in the Citation M2 from our customers in Europe. Operator feedback and owner insight have indicated a European market demand for a Citation with the size, speed and range of the Citation M2. We are experiencing enquiries from potential customers new to the Citation family, Mustang owners looking for a logical next step and CJ1+ operators who want a new, more advanced Citation.”

Hepburn continued: “Reliable and comfortable, the M2 is ideally suited to business travel in Europe; the aircraft offers non-stop flights between city pairs including Paris-Athens and Zurich-Moscow.” Announced in September 2011, the Citation M2 made its first prototype flight in March 2012. The flight lasted just over 90 minutes and included tests of the avionics system, autopilot, engine system, aircraft systems and instrument approaches. Since then, the prototype has flown 35 times and acquired more than 70 flight hours. Cessna also just completed the first flight of their second conforming prototype article which will be used primarily for aerodynamics testing.

Federal Aviation Administration certification (Part 23) is expected in the first half of 2013, followed by deliveries beginning in the second half of 2013. The Citation M2’s clean cockpit design is anchored by the fully integrated Garmin G3000 avionics suite and the aircraft is powered by a pair of FADEC-controlled Williams International FJ44-1AP-21 turbofan engines. The aircraft has an all-new cabin design, including the optional Cessna proprietary cabin management system Clairity™ that includes the latest interface options for greater in-flight productivity and connectivity.

With room for two crew and up to six passengers, the $4.195 million 2012 USD Citation M2 has a maximum cruise speed of 400 knots true airspeed (741 kilometers per hour) and a range of 1,300 nautical miles (2,408 kilometers). The aircraft can operate at airports with runways as short as 3,250 feet (991 meters) and will climb to 41,000 feet (12,497 meters) in 24 minutes.
