Dassault Falcon Service (DFS), a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation, inaugurated its new maintenance facility in Bordeaux-Mérignac intended to meet the increase in repair and overhaul services for the Falcon 7X and other new Falcon models. Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation Chairman/CEO, and Jean Kayanakis, DFS General Manager, oversaw the ceremony attended by a host of local, regional and national dignitaries, including Alain Juppé, President of the Bordeaux Metropolitan Area, Alain Rousset, President of the Regional Council, Alain Anziani, the Senator-Mayor of Mérignac and Marie Recalde, Member of Parliament and member of the Defense Committee. The event was also attended by representatives of government agencies and of the Aquitaine regional economy.

Located at Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport, adjacent to the Dassault Aviation assembly plant, the new complex will add 49,000 sq. meters of additional Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) space, including a 7,200 sq. meter hangar, and will be capable of accommodating up to six Falcon 7X, 8X or 5X aircraft at a time. It will complement DFS’s existing installations which have been located at Le Bourget airport near Paris since 1967. “This additional capacity will permit DFS to keep up with the steady growth in the Falcon fleet, which currently numbers 2,100 aircraft worldwide and is expected to expand significantly with the arrival of the Falcon 8X, which started deliveries last month.” said Eric Trappier.

Jean Kayanakis added: “We are extremely proud of this new MRO complex and the speed with which it was built. Building permission was granted in July 2015, followed by groundbreaking in October and delivery of the building in September 2016. The first Falcon arrived on site on October 17 and was returned to its owner on October 28.” The immediate priority of the new facility will be to handle the expected C Checks ramp-up for the Falcon 7X. The 7X fleet leaders are now approaching their first heavy maintenance check, scheduled once an aircraft reaches eight years of service. More than 250 aircraft are now in operation.

Jet Aviation is pleased to announce the appointment of its maintenance hub in Dubai to the Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) Service Center Network (SCN). The agreement with Airbus was signed at MEBAA 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Airbus appointed Jet Aviation’s MRO hub in Basel, Switzerland, as part of the ACJ SCN in May this year. To enhance support services for ACJ customers and operators, the aircraft manufacturer is now extending its authorization to include Jet Aviation’s MRO hub in Dubai. The authorization includes line maintenance, retrofits, modifications and cabin and system upgrades. As a global leader in business aviation, Jet Aviation’s maintenance facility in Dubai is the company’s major MRO hub for the Middle East and a leading MRO service provider in the region. The facility also provides 24/7 AOG support on demand to International Airports in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Al Ain. Over the past year, it has supported numerous aircraft in maintenance, recovery and AOG support missions in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, India and other Middle East and African countries.

Jet Aviation’s MRO facility in Basel recently signed its first agreement to perform maintenance on a Boeing Business Jet 777-200 for an undisclosed client in the Middle East. The wide-body aircraft is to be redelivered to the client on December 25, 2016. Despite the short turnaround time, the Basel Maintenance Center welcomes the opportunity to do maintenance on a B777-200 aircraft and thereby validate its capabilities for the full range of Boeing VVIP aircraft. “There was just one week between receiving the request and the aircraft’s arrival, but the entire team is fully prepared and very excited about the project,” says Estelle Thorin, Jet Aviation’s director of maintenance for large aircraft in Basel. “This is a significant milestone for the large aircraft maintenance team, and we look forward to demonstrating our high quality maintenance services to this new customer — and all owners and operators of BBJ-777 aircraft.”

“This kind of major inspection truly attests to our broad range of skills and competencies in Geneva,” says Cyril Martiniere, managing director of Jet Aviation’s MRO and FBO facility in Geneva. “It also serves to highlight our team’s flexibility, customer orientation and dedication to ensuring complex projects are successfully completed.”

Jet Aviation celebrates another milestone in Geneva, where its maintenance center has recently completed its first Honeywell DU-875 ELITE cockpit display upgrade in combination with a 120-month heavy check on a Global Express XRS. Jet Aviation’s MRO facility in Geneva recently conducted its first Honeywell DU-875 ELITE cockpit display upgrade and cockpit printer upgrade on a large-cabin, ultra-long-range Global Express XRS. To help minimize the aircraft’s downtime, the upgrade was done in conjunction with a required 120-month check, Geneva’s second such inspection on a Global Express Series aircraft.

During the upgrade, all Flight Deck display units on the aircraft were replaced with a new Honeywell Primus Elite DU-875 display system. The DU-875 meets requirements for planned growth functionality to support future situational awareness enhancements while further providing general purpose application processing and advanced graphics. The new cockpit printer was a necessary add-on to the DU875 installation and required a new engineering and certification package.

Jet Aviation has completed the first installation of the new ATG-8000 high-speed internet system in an Embraer Lineage at its facility in St. Louis.
“This is the first ATG-8000 ever installed in a Lineage, and it’s a very complex process,” said Blake Hogge, senior manager, Aviation Sales at Jet Aviation at St. Louis. “We had to strip out much of the interior and even take the fuel tanks out of the airplane’s belly. Basically, we had to take the right side of the aircraft apart.”
Hogge said the ATG-8000 is part of Gogo Business Aviation’s air-to-ground (ATG) connectivity system – a package that includes multiple modems, routers, and external directional antennae. It will provide the customer with high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, and connectivity for information and entertainment services such as email and video conferencing. While the ATG-8000 is fairly new for business-aviation applications, Hogge said it has been installed in hundreds of commercial airliners. He said the Jet Aviation service center in St. Louis installed it in the Lineage under a supplemental type certificate (STC).
Jet Aviation in St. Louis recently completed a contract for a second ATG-8000 installation scheduled in April.

Gulfstream announced that it is adding maintenance services at Paris Le Bourget Airport. This airport is considered Europe's busiest facilities for executive travel. As a result Gulfstream sees it necessary to add a FAST team (Field and Airborne Support Team) to be able to respond efficiently to any problems. The FAST unit comprises European Aviation Safety Agency-trained technicians and a 33-foot/10.1-meter-long custom truck outfitted with a range of specialty equipment. “With many Gulfstream aircraft moving through daily, Le Bourget is an ideal location to have an on-site mobile repair team available to our customers,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “We’re initially focused on rapid-response assistance and looking at other ways to enhance our services.”

Jet Aviation redelivered two ACJ VVIP aircraft for Middle Eastern Customers late last year and earlier this year. One was an ACJ330 and the other an ACJ319. Just 10 months was required to do the work on the ACJ319 and the ACJ330 took around 14 months which is very fast for the work they did. Joshua Florio, project manager, Jet Aviation Completions said: “We were delighted to be able to deliver these aircraft in October 2016 and February 2017, bringing our total collaboration with the customer to three aircraft. The customer engaged Jet Aviation Completions in Basel due to our reputation for superior process and techniques from design to delivery. This, combined with the speed with which the team brought together these beautiful aircraft, is a real testament to both the quality and efficiency of Jet Aviation Completions.”
