   Actually, even in aviation circles you find that many people cannot agree on true purpose for the spinner/swirls. Is it for ground crew to be able to tell the fan is in motion, is it for the birds? That is usually the consensus but still many will say that there is no scientific proof that these actually scare birds or alert birds etc. It is a very interesting thing in the aviation world.
