If you are going to be traveling soon in the United States or from the U.S there are some airlines that are making it a requirement to wear masks in order to fly with them from U.S airports. In the least there are eight or the bigger carriers that are requiring passengers traveling to wear masks: American, Delta, Alaska Airways, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest and United. At Orlando International Airport, there are the required social distancing protocols expected.

Beiruit Airport in Lebanon is still operational despite suffering some damage from the massive explosion that rocked the Port of Beruit. The airport itself is not necessarily close to the site of the explosion being some 10 km away but the shockwave that emanated from the blast caused damage. International flights are still flying in and out of the airport. Turkish, MEA, Etihad, Emirates and Qatar are still operating their scheduled flights. The majority of the damaged suffered at the airport stemmed from shattered glass of windows, compromised ceilings, broken cables.

A dead body was found over the last weekend at the Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska. The body was found in the bus shed near the people mover shuttle around 10 in the morning on Sunday. It is unclear whether the person was traveling or not. The deceased individual was a male, airport police arrived on the scene and checked for vitals and then summoned the Anchorage Fire Department who then confirmed the man dead.

In light of the current Corona conditions one International airport is seeing some progress in its airport numbers. In July, the airport saw 187 thousand passengers passed through the facility. The number represents 132 thousand more than in June which shows hardly any person was really traveling in June through that airport. In July there recorded were 3,278 flights at Riga Airport. For the first seven months of the year there were more than 22,000 flights which translates into being 55.8 percent less than in the same period in 2019.

Let's look at how the situation at Riga airport has evolved. For the first nine months of the year 1.8 million passengers were handled at Riga Airport. This figure represents roughly a third of last year's passenger volume. As compared to the first nine months of last year, the number of passengers has declined by 69.6% at Riga Airport. During September this airport managed to pass through 113.6 thousand passengers which turns out to be 77,000 less than in August. Looking at the two Septembers for comparison, passengers declined by 85% compared to September last year.

The Berlin Brandenberg Airport has been a source of contention for the German people as this new airport is coming on stream 9 years late. It has consistently missed completion deadlines for nearly the last decade. The new airport recently welcomed its first passengers coming in on an EasyJet Airbus. This came in just ahead of a Lufthansa flight. The Brandenberg airport was originally due to open in 2011. Photo: AP

As drone activity around major international airport continue it appears that some airports are stepping up their efforts to counteract such activity. One of these airports is Incheon International Airport in South Korea. in 2019 this airport saw 71 million passengers passed through its facilities. Black Sage Sawtooth anti drone equipment is now installed at the airport and the apparatus has detected drone activity near the airport. "Black Sage is proud to work with our partners at Incheon International Airport Corporation to increase the safety of passengers arriving and departing from their airport," stated Trent Morrow, Black Sage's Chief Strategy Officer. "Our Counter UAS solutions are deployed with militaries and airports worldwide protecting people and critical infrastructure."

Of course when it comes to indoor waterfalls at an airport there is none that tops the experience at the Jewel in Changi International Airport in Singapore. This airport is just on another level and it is no wonder why travelers love passing through this particular airport.

Boca Raton Airport (BCT) in Florida is the first to install a Hali-Brite LED rotating beacon in the United States. It is the first Nav aid of its kind to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The benefits are fairly obvious...one being the energy used to power this light is significantly reduced. The beam is a much focused one as well which helps avoid light pollution for neighbours of the airport. It also should last longer before having to replace the unit. "Upgrading the rotating beacon to LED offers numerous benefits, and is in keeping with the Boca Raton Airport Authority's (BRAA)goal to enhance safety and implement cost-efficient, energy-saving measures," said Clara Bennett, executive director of BRAA.
