Dassault Falcon Service (DFS), a Dassault Aviation subsidiary based in Paris-Le Bourget, recently completed the conversion of a Falcon 900B from passenger configuration to full cargo in record time. The conversion, involving a company-owned aircraft, took eight days from reception of the order toapproval by French Civil Aviation authorities, granted under a fast-track exemption. The project entailed stripping passenger seats and furnishings and installing equipment to stow and secure freight. No major modifications to access doors or other systems were undertaken and the conversion is readily reversible back to passenger configuration. The modification involved customer service, engineering and operating teams from DFS as well as test and certification resources from Dassault Aviation. The aircraft is being used to transport fabric needed for the production of face masks to a plant in Eastern Europe and to return completed masks for distribution in France, North Africa and other areas stricken by the Covid-19 pandemic or recovering from the coronavirus lockdown. Flying these materials in a converted business jet is considerably faster and provides greater flexibility than commercial airfreight or ground transport. Capacity is 13.5 cubic meters or 6,325 lbs (2,884 kg).

Dassault Aviation has unified the sales activities of its EMEA and APAC factory owned maintenance repair and overhaul operations, creating a single point of contact and offering a wider choice of MRO solutions, locations and schedules for customers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia/Pacific. The new sales organization, headed by Thierry Salaün, brings together the MRO sales operations of Dassault’s wholly owned Dassault Falcon Service (DFS) affiliate with those of TAG Maintenance Services (TMS) and the Falcon segment of Execujet MRO Services, each acquired last year. This provides operators better access to the full capabilities of its expanded MRO service network.

Olivier Dassault perished on the 7th of March when the helicopter he was onboard crashed in the Normandy region. The helicopter involved in the crash was a AS350B. Speaking on social media platform Twitter, French president Emmanuel Macron said, "As a business leader, MP, local councillor, a reserve commander in the air force, throughout his life he never ceased to serve our country, to promote what was great about it. His brutal death is a great loss. Our thoughts go to his family and his friends."

"Olivier Dassault was a man of many talents: pilot, engineer, politician, artist, whose achievements I have been able to appreciate on many occasions. He was first and foremost, for me, a very present Director, always at the company’s side in the many challenges it faces", said Eric Trappier, chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation.

You might not know that there is a small population of 6,300 French citizens on two islands about 20 miles southwest of Newfoundland, Canada. The hardy residents of Saint Pierre and Miquelon live in a “Territorial Collective” that is a part of France. It’s rarely in the news but did have some exposure through the 2001 Film The Widow of Saint Pierre starring Juliette Binoche looking rather glamorous in a remote fishing community. It’s not easy to get to either. In recent years there have been direct flights between Paris and Saint Pierre on 737s—summers only, plus turboprop flights to Canada. In the meantime, a batch of 9,600 doses of the Moderna vaccine (enough to fully vaccinate 4,800 inhabitants) needed quick transport to the islands in special cold-storage containers.

The RUBAE 2021 happened...not much press coverage of it though. It took place from the 8th of September through to the 10th. Dassault Falcon was there with an ultra-long-range Falcon 8X on static display, plus a cabin mockup of the wide body Falcon 6X aircraft, which is now in flight test with entry into service planned for the end of 2022. The 6X mockup made a new appearance in Russia after a successful 2021 European tour including exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Geneva and Milan.

TAG Maintenance Services redid this Falcon 2000LX As this project started at the beginning of the pandemic and the lockdown, the team's first task was to reorganize and divide the project schedule by shifts to allow all of the health and safety measures put in place to protect customers, partners and employees. In addition to the C2-check and associated tasks, the customer asked the team to mirror his Falcon 2000LX to his newly delivered Falcon 8X in terms of cabin design, entertainment and communication systems. In order to make it similar, the team worked with the Falcon 8X wood plating sent by the Dassault completion center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

    The project plan included:

    - re-veneer of all cabinetry

    - replacement of all cabin side wall panels

    - re-upholstery of the seats and cabin

    - replacement of all aircraft carpets

    - installation of the Honeywell Jetwave KA-Band high speed Internet SATCOM

    - installation of the Irridium Satcom system - Aircell Axxess II Level D

    - installation of the newest IFE upgrade with Venue CSM and HD monitors

    - replacement of the existing LED lightning system with a new BE/A "full spectrum" LED lightning system

    - replacement of existing exterior cameras with full HD Otonomy cameras

Here is a look at the first customer bound Falcon 6X arriving at Little Rock in the United States towards the end of January. "The arrival of the first Falcon 6X at Little Rock marks a very positive milestone in this program," said Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation Chairman and CEO. "Our teams have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for 6X completion and we are benefiting from very good momentum as we move towards certification."
