  1. MoU On Future Of AS2 Between Aerion; Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin has been working with Aerion behind the scenes on the AS2 supersonic business jet by the Aerion Corporation. Lockheed Martin is no stranger to developing supersonic craft, most notably, the SR71 Blackbird, which was a Mach 3 aircraft. Lockheed Martin has been working closely with Aerion for about a year now to see the viability of this aircraft . Now a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed, the two will build-out the framework to cover work and aspects concerning engineering, certification and production.
  2. Although the MoU has been made, the Executive Chairman of Aerion Brian Barents is cautious when talking about the partnership. Many doubt the progress of the Aerion AS2 and the supersonic business jet idea all-together even though there are other companies actively pursuing the idea, like BOOM Technologies. GE announced earlier this year that they are collaborating on an engine for the AS2 and FlexJet announced at the end of 2015 an order for 20 aircraft worth some 2.4 billion dollars. Getting the program going at a faster rate is a challenge but with the legendary Lockheed Martin onboard development of the jet may seem more stable now. Aerion worked with Airbus on the AS2 project as well and still plans to work with them if any suitable applications are realized.
