JFK Airport just cannot stay out of the news whether it is for the weather, accidents, burst main in Terminal 4 or stranded passengers fighting. A Kuwait Airways Boeing 777-300ER suffered damage after its tailcone was destroyed from the wing tip of a China Southern Boeing 777-300ER. The Kuwait Airways aircraft was at the gate parked before it was scheduled to depart for Kuwait when the accident happened. No one was injured in the event, the passengers were taken off the planes and accommodated at hotels while alternate flights were arranged.

A Scoot Boeing 787 cabin door was damaged while the aircraft was at Changi International Airport in Singapore. Apparently, the chocks were taken off the aircraft while the brakes were not ON allowing the jet to roll back a few meters as it was still at the jetway. That subsequently ripped the L2 door from it's hinges. Photo By Jetline Marvel

Not a jet, but there is news that a Robinson R44 helicopter crashed off the coast in Brazil. It went down in the ocean off the state of Recife in what has been described as 'heavy rain'. The helicopter was utilized as a newscopter and was actually engaged in filming a segment for an early morning show, 'Good Morning Pernambuco'. Witnesses suggest that they heard strange sounds coming from the engine as it went down. The pilot and a passenger were killed in the crash reports suggest. Another passenger is said to be in critical condition after surgery.

It has been a rough few days in aviation with a number of casualties. The latest one is of a Bombardier Q400 that crashed in Kathmandu. This aircraft is said to have been operated by US-Bangla and had registration S2-AGU. 67 passengers and four crew members were on board at the time of the crash. Twenty passengers have so far been rescued and transported to the nearest hospital. It is being reported that the aircraft suffered a technical fault during landing which led to the crash.

A helicopter crashed in New York's East River killing 5. The pilot is said to have survived. The crash might have been caused by one of the passengers luggage inadvertently hitting the fuel shut-off button but the NTSB says a team of 14 were expected to travel to the site to determine the real cause of the crash. A mayday call was received at LaGuardia Airport from the pilot of the stricken helicopter. This crash happened yesterday, Sunday 11th of March.

An Emirates crew member fell from an Emirates Boeing 77W in Uganda yesterday. The Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority said a member of the cabin crew "appeared to have opened the emergency door" and that she "unfortunately fell off". The lady was taken to local hospital for her injuries and is alive and not a fatality as was previously and initially reported on social media.

As an update, the same female crew member that fell from the Emirates Boeing 77W while it was parked at a Ugandan Airport has succumbed to her injuries.
Kisubi hospital's spokesperson Edward Zabonna told the BBC that the crew member had injuries "all over her face and knees". He said that she had been "unconscious but alive" when she arrived at the hospital on Wednesday evening but died soon after. News agency AFP quotes a statement from Emirates Airline as saying: "A member of our cabin crew unfortunately fell from an open door while preparing the aircraft for boarding". The Dubai-based airline promised its "full cooperation" with the investigation.

With all the problems P&W is having with their Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) engines that were manufactured for the Airbus A320neo and all the issues they are causing for lowcost carriers that are using them the Canadian company has given a new timeline for return to service. All 43 in-service PW1100G-JM geared-turbofan (GTF) engines are currently undergoing modification by Pratt & Whitney. This follows operating restrictions imposed on them by a February 9 EASA emergency airworthiness directive. According to PW President Robert Leduc, the engine type will return to the air by the end of April.

Addressing attendees on Friday at United Technologies’ Annual Analysts and Portfolio Managers Meeting in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Leduc confirmed his estimate did apply to the fleets of affected PW1100G engines powering Airbus A320neos operated by Indian carriers IndiGo and GoAir. India’s DGCA grounded the two airlines’ A320neo fleets earlier this week after a GoAir A320neo suffered an in-flight shutdown of one of its GTF engines on Monday. IndoGo experienced two in-flight shutdowns earlier this year.

TAP Air Portugal strands 106 passengers at Stuttgart Airport for 3 days. It is alleged that the co-pilot for the flight listed as TP523 had been arrested for being intoxicated. The German news agency dpa reported Saturday that all 106 passengers were put up at hotels overnight. TAP tweeted Saturday that the passengers would only be able to fly to Lisbon on Monday, “which is, at the moment, the first day with seats available.”
