More issues are creeping in for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW1100G powered Airbus A320neo aircraft. The latest is IndiGO and GOair having grounded 11 aircraft of he type that utilize these powerplants. These consistent issues with the powerplants will naturally cause some big concern for these carriers as they are budget airlines and need to move alot of people to make money. Being grounded does not help and they were banking on these new planes to help them offer a stellar product to their customers. Regulator DGCA took action on Monday March 12th and grounded 11 A320neo planes operated by the above-mentioned carriers. It was as a result of instances of engine failures during flights. Of the 11 aircraft, 8 of them are under IndiGO's operations and the other 3 are flown by GOair.

Boeing and Turkish Airlines announced yesterday they have finalized a firm order for 25 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with options for five more airplanes. The firm order will allow Turkey's flag carrier to further meet the growing demand at its home airport, Istanbul's third airport, and improve the flying experience for passengers. With this firm order – first announced as a commitment last September – Turkish Airlines becomes the 71st customer to buy the 787. Together, these customers have now ordered more than 1,300 Dreamliners, the fastest-selling twin-aisle airplane in Boeing history.

If you have been following the 77X program so far you would know what powerplants are being tested to be certified to fly on the next generation of Boeing 777s. The General Electric GE9X is that powerplant and it has now entered the flight testing phase. It is a giant of a powerplant and you can tell for perspective it is mounted on a Boeing 747-4 testbed. This powerplant will power the 777 8X and 9X and will produce around 105,000 lbs of thrust even though it is 10cm wider than the GE90-115Bs carried by the B77W (777-300ER).

Boeing's new 737 MAX 7 successfully completed its first flight yesterday (17th March). The airplane remains on schedule and now begins a comprehensive flight test program leading to certification and delivery in 2019. "Everything we saw during [today's] flight shows that the MAX 7 is performing exactly as designed," said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager of the 737 MAX program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "I know our airline customers are going to enjoy the capabilities this airplane will bring to their fleets." Piloted by Boeing Test and Evaluation Captains Jim Webb and Keith Otsuka, the airplane completed a successful 3 hour, 5-minute flight, taking off from Renton Field in Renton, Wash., at 10:17 a.m. Pacific, and landing at 1:22 p.m. at Seattle's Boeing Field. The airplane was put through tests on its flight controls, as well as checks of its systems and handling qualities.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has leaped into the A380 ring. It is evident now that photos are circulating of their first A380, all-be-it in sections prior to assembly. The main sections of the aircraft recently arrived at Toulouse, France for final assembly which is anticipated to start next month. Of course when ANA takes delivery of this aircraft in 2019, it will be the first of its kind in Japan. Three of these aircraft are expected to be handed over to the Japanese carrier. The first one will be powered by four RR Trent 900s and be pressed into service on the Tokyo to Honolulu run.

Bombardier sent a demonstration CSeries CS300 to New York and was seen in a hangar at JFK recently. The CS300 had a small jetBlue logo on the front giving away the reason whey the aircraft was there. A few weeks ago we told you about an Embraer E190-E2 that was there being shown to the same jetBlue. This company is currently looking to change their fleet of older Embraers and are actively making a choice between Bombardier's CSeries offerings and the Brazilian regional jets.

Boeing has delivered the world's first 787-10 DreamLiner to launch customer Singapore Airlines. Approximately 3,000 people marked the milestone at Boeing's facility in North Charleston, South Carolina where the latest 787 model is manufactured. Like the other 787 Dreamliners, the 787-10 is designed with strong, lightweight composites, the most advanced systems, and comfortable cabin features. The 787-10, though, features a longer fuselage which allows it to carry about 40 more passengers or a total of 330 seats in a standard two-class configuration.

"It is an honour for us to be the world's first airline to take delivery of this amazing aircraft," said Mr. Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer of Singapore Airlines, the 787-10 launch customer. "The 787-10 is a magnificent piece of engineering and truly a work of art. It will be an important element in our overall growth strategy, enabling us to expand our network and strengthen our operations." Singapore Airlines – through its subsidiary Scoot – already flies the 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners. With [today's] -March 25th- delivery the group will be the first to operate all three Dreamliner models. Singapore Airlines has 68 additional Boeing widebody jets on order, including 48 additional 787-10s, and 20 of the new 777-9s.

The Airbus A321LR testbed has flown its longest flight to-date, a flight that took it from the Seychelles to Toulouse, France. The aircraft flew over 4,200 nautical miles to complete the journey. The flight was undertaken with dummy passengers to simulate real world weight. The flight was also made possible by the fitment of three extra center fuel tanks. The Leap engines and fuel management system were closely scrutinized to see the performance parameters.
