Boeing announced yesterday that American Airlines has put in an order for 47 Boeing 787s with options for 28 more. The order is substantial believed to be worth in the region of 12 billion dollars. It is significant because it comes at a time when AA cancelled an Airbus A350 order for 22 A350s. American Airlines said it was simply a method to simplify its fleet as it already owns near three-dozen 787 Dreamliners.

As part of the efficiency-boosting A380 cabin enablers, Airbus has developed a new option: “A380 Cabin-Flex.” This solution consists in a new cabin door area arrangement on the upper-deck, suitable for premium configuration with lower density seat counts, allowing airlines to gain revenue-earning floor-space for extra seating without compromising on passenger comfort. The enhancement is available either for line-fit and retrofit. Qantas has chosen to be the launch operator of the A380 Cabin-Flex on its current A380 fleet from mid-2019. A380 Cabin-Flex makes available the extra space for additional seats by allowing the upper-deck at “Doors-3” to be deactivated. Compared with current A380 layouts, A380 Cabin-Flex can bring up to 11 more premium economy seats or seven business class seats. In terms of economics, this translates into a typical return-on-investment (RoI) within around one year for the retrofit solution. The option, is therefore a very effective way to increase the premium seat-count in the upper-deck.

Boeing statement on RR Trent 1000 Package C Engine Issues

We are aware that Rolls-Royce made a financial disclosure [today], April 13th, in connection with increased inspections of the Trent 1000 Package C engine.

About 25 percent of the 787 Dreamliner fleet is powered by this Rolls-Royce engine variant. This issue does not affect current production 787s, the Trent 1000 Package B, Trent 1000 TEN or GEnx-1B engines. An existing EASA Airworthiness Directive for the Package C engine requires inspections of an intermediate pressure compressor blade at certain flight cycles. If a durability issue is found, the blade will be replaced. This is a known issue and we will continue to work with Rolls-Royce, our customers and the regulators to fully resolve it. Boeing is deploying support teams to mitigate service disruption. Safety is our highest priority. The 787 has safely flown more than 3.2 billion miles since entering commercial service in 2011.

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Ryanair today announced they finalized an order for 25 additional high-capacity 737 MAX 8 airplanes. The $3 billion order, at current list prices, was previously listed as unidentified on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website.

"We are pleased to announce the exercise of 25 Boeing 737 "Gamechanger" options, bringing our firm order to 135 737 MAX 8s," said Neil Sorahan, chief financial officer, Ryanair. "The Gamechanger has eight more seats than our current 189-seat Boeing 737-800NG and incorporates the latest technology engines and winglets which reduce fuel consumption and noise emissions, ensuring we remain Europe's greenest, cleanest airline and lowest cost airline. We look forward to taking delivery of our first Gamechanger in Spring 2019." Ryanair launched the high-capacity 737 MAX 8 in late 2014 with an order for 100 airplanes, followed by an additional order for 10 airplanes at the 2017 Paris Air Show. The airplane will provide Ryanair with 197 seats, increasing revenue potential and delivering up to 14 percent lower fuel consumption than today's Next-Generation 737s.

The first Airbus A380 for Japanese customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) has left the assembly building. ANA said that it would have its three A380s configured with 520 seats - eight in first, 56 in business, 73 in premium economy and 383 in economy. The powerplants onboard are Rolls-Royce Trent 970 engines. In this photo you do not see them as they have yet to be fitted. Airbus says the aircraft will be moved to an open area where the engines, cockpit furnishings and other outfitting will be completed.

Airbus Beluga XL project is going along smoothly it would appear with the first one in the paint shed being painted into its final livery. The more efficient and larger transporters are using a more voluminous fuselage modification and therefore will be able to carry more parts in one flight. Here is a look at how the paint scheme should look when completed.
