Prep work for the first Airbus A319Neo ACJ is well underway with work expected to start this same time next year and continue through until re-delivery to the customer in early 2020. The aircraft will go to K5 Aviation in Germany once completed. Fokker Services will perform the work and actually they have done work for K5 before. The aim is to install an ultra-lightweight interior to be able to keep the range on the aircraft substantial. The last ACJ project they worked on for K5, the range was in the region of 4,590 nautical miles. It is hoped that with the more efficient engines of the NEO ACJ319, the range will be more.

Bombardier has increased its emphasis on service support and aftermarket support with the expansion of their Mobile Response Team (MRT). They actually have added a second MRT in the form of a Challenger 300 that is based in Frankfurt, Germany. For a while now, Bombardier has been using a Learjet to fly around the United States to customers who were in need. Now it is time to expand this philosophy and take it to Europe which why they are using a Challenger 300 for this region. Soon the Challenger 300 will start flying parts and technicians to help resolve AOG problems for Learjet, Challenger, and Global operators throughout Europe in the second half of this year. It is great for Bombardier because of Bombardier’s parts depot in Frankfurt. From there, the Challenger 300 has he range to cover areas in northern Africa, the Middle East, and Russia.

Jet Aviation recently received EASA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for ADS-B Out compliance for the B747 series aircraft, some 2 years ahead of EASA and FAA 2020 mandates. With this approval, Jet Aviation’s MRO and Completions facility in Basel is authorized to configure and install ADS-B Out systems on B747 aircraft subject to specific equipment configurations.

ADS-B Out compliance delivers digital information such as the aircraft’s exact position, sensors and system accuracy and traffic and resolution advice to airborne and landed Automatic Dependent Surveillance-B (ADS-B) receivers. This enhances situational awareness for Air Traffic Control of aircraft with ADS-B Out capabilities and is mandated by the FAA effective January 2020, followed by EASA in June 2020. "This STC demonstrates our commitment to meeting the highest safety and security standards while providing the most benefit to our customers in a timely manner," says Estelle Thorin, director of Program Management for large aircraft in Basel. "We are pleased to extend ADS-B Out compliance to owners and operators of Boeing B747 aircraft."

Bombardier has broken ground on a brand new service center in Miami.

Bombardier is pleased to announce another wave of growth for its award-winning service network as it increases its customer service capabilities in the U.S. with a new service center at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The new service center will more than double the company’s current customer service footprint in Florida with new capabilities, including a paint facility for the center’s vast customer base spanning the U.S. and Latin America.

“By doubling our capacity to support more aircraft, and adding new capabilities, our customers will benefit from the peace of mind that comes from our OEM expertise and from reduced aircraft downtime,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Vice President and General Manager, Customer Experience. “Thanks to our long-term relationship with the state of Florida, we are thrilled to open our new facility at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF), where many of our operators are already based.” Planned for inauguration in 2020, the new service center in Miami will be fully equipped to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, aircraft modifications, avionics installations, and aircraft on ground support (AOG) for Bombardier Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft. Once the facility is fully ramped up, the new service center will nearly double Bombardier’s employment in Florida to close to 300 employees.

Textron Aviation strengthens its presence in Canada by forming Textron Aviation Canada.

The first phase of the expansion includes the acquisition of assets of Aspect Aircraft Maintenance, Inc., an aircraft maintenance and repair provider in Calgary, Canada, where a Textron Aviation Mobile Service Unit (MSU) currently operates, and a new MSU base in Toronto. “By establishing Textron Aviation Canada, we’re reaffirming our support to a growing customer base in the country,” said Kriya Shortt, senior vice president, customer service. “This recent acquisition and growth plan will increase our customer’s access to factory-direct service, ensuring they have a local connection for technical support, parts and maintenance.”

The Calgary MSU operates as part of the Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) certification, approved to perform maintenance and repairs on Citation, King Air and Hawker aircraft. As part of the acquisition, the MSU team based at Calgary International Airport will grow in the number of technicians and expand its capabilities to deliver AOG support and limited inspection items and engine maintenance. Textron Aviation Canada is part of the company’s continuous investment in locally based customer service. Earlier this year, the company added four new MSU bases in North America and introduced a line maintenance station at London’s Biggin Hill Airport.

Jet Aviation is pleased to announce it successfully performed two simultaneous 192-month C-Checks on Gulfstream GVs in Dubai. Both checks were combined with a number of service bulletins. The company recently redelivered the aircraft to two separate customers. As a factory authorized service center for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, Jet Aviation’s maintenance center in Dubai supports the full line of Gulfstream large cabin business jets. The facility recently delivered two C-Checks on Gulfstream GV aircraft that were carried out at the same time.

The 192-month C-Check is a heavy inspection that requires the majority of the aircraft's components to be inspected. To take advantage of the downtime, both C-Checks on the GV deliveries were combined with a number of service bulletins, including double engine changes and minor refurbishments, with rather extensive maintenance structural corrosion repairs on one of the aircraft. “Undertaking two projects of this magnitude at once is a considerable undertaking that requires great skill and organization,” said Hardy Butschi, Jet Aviation’s vice president of regional operations in the Middle East and general manager of Dubai. “Thousands of man-hours were dedicated to completing the two projects in a timely manner to both customers’ great satisfaction. “Customers appreciate our experience, expertise and flexibility with large inspections and regularly take the opportunity to combine scheduled maintenance with other service offerings,” said Butschi. “Combining scheduled inspections with other service offerings is our way of delivering the highest benefit to our customers.”

The North American maintenance, repair, overhaul and completions business has announced it is adding more than 140,000 square feet to its North American footprint as it continues its ambitious expansion and embarks on its largest infrastructure growth to date. Plans are currently being finalized for the groundbreaking of a brand-new hangar by the end of fall 2018 at the Peterborough, ON. facility. The additional hangar, the fourth at Flying Colours Peterborough headquarters, is needed to provide additional capacity for completions, refurbishment and heavy maintenance work scopes on large jet airframes.

The purpose-built hangar will be divided into three distinct zones. A new 40,000-square-feet, climate controlled, state-of-the-art paint shop will be added, supplementing the two existing dedicated paint shops. Large enough to accommodate business jets up to Global 7500, Boeing Business Jet or Airbus A220 (formerly known as the Bombardier C Series) size airframes it will fulfill the higher volume of paint jobs passing through the facility. A second area of 40,000 square feet has been designed to enable heavy maintenance and/or interior work on up to four Global 6000-size aircraft to take place simultaneously. Two higher levels will be used for new customer offices, a second dedicated design-center at the facility, storage and general office space. The total office space will cover more than 20,000 square feet bringing the hangar footprint to more than 100,000 square feet in total when it opens in mid-2019.

Jet Aviation held the grand opening for its new widebody Hangar 3 at its Basel, Switzerland facility recently. The new facility encompasses a massive 93,646-sq-ft/8,700-sq-m structure at EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg. As widebody bizjet completions work grows they need to be able to match that demand. It gives Jet Aviation the flexibility to be able to work on both widebody and narrowbody projects at the same time.

They have broken ground on this new facility and it happened yesterday. "Our business has grown significantly over the last twelve months and we were running out of space to accommodate all our clients’ requests. Once the building is complete we will be using it to provide additional capacity for completions, refurbishment and heavy maintenance work scopes on large jet airframes," said John Gillespie regarding the expansion works.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s Customer Support organization continues to strengthen its commitment to operators by adding people, facilities and capabilities to its worldwide network. Gulfstream Customer Support President Derek Zimmerman called 2018 a year of expansions and enhancements for the award-winning organization.

In 2018, Gulfstream announced expansion plans at four Customer Support locations: Appleton, Wisconsin; Savannah; Farnborough, England; and West Palm Beach, Florida, to accommodate growing demand from existing customers and the company’s fleet expansion. These maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, including hangar, offices, back shops and support space, will add more than 700,000 square feet/65,032 square meters to Gulfstream’s maintenance footprint and provide customers with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, line maintenance and aircraft-on-ground (AOG) support.

“We are as well-positioned as we have ever been to respond to our customers’ evolving needs and deliver on our promise of an exemplary customer ownership experience,” Zimmerman said. “With the opening of these state-of-the-art maintenance facilities in the next two years, along with beginning operations in 2019 at our world-class Van Nuys, California, MRO that we announced in 2017, we will have significantly enhanced accessibility for our customers, reinforcing our commitment to them.”
