  1. Lockheed Martin X-59 QueSST Update
If you are a regular reader around JetForums then you would have seen some talk about the Lockheed Martin X-59 QueSST project. In a world that is increasingly hearing talk about and also seeing tangible attempts made at bringing a supersonic business jet or commercial aircraft to market, Lockheed Martin is pushing their X-59 QueSST (Quiet Supersonic Transport) even further.
  2. In partnership with their Skunk Works® team and NASA they are trying to develop a low sonic boom aircraft. Last year, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works was selected for the design, build and flight test of the Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator (LBFD). The X-59 aircraft will collect community response data on the acceptability of the quiet sonic boom generated by our design, helping NASA establish an acceptable commercial supersonic noise standard to overturn current regulations banning supersonic travel over land. This would open the door to an entirely new global market for aircraft manufacturers, enabling passengers to travel anywhere in the world in half the time it takes today. They are saying the boom produced will be no louder than a car-door being shut. The X-59 is envisioned to fly at around 55,000 feet and 940mph.
