Beijing's Daxing International Airport has been finished more or less. It is the second international airport for Beijing. Operations are anticipated for September 30th, 2019. Chinese air traffic is continuing to rise and everything is becoming more crowded. The new airport has been estimated to cost nearly 13 billion. Daxing now puts Beijing on the list of cities that have more than one International airport. By 2025 it is expected that the capacity at Daxing will be around 72 million. Runway tests are ongoing as 6 of them are to be completed by September. The design of the airport terminal is quite eye-catching, resembling that of a starfish. Below you have a rendering of what the design was and a real photo of how the concept became reality.

Egypt opens new international airport partially for trials. It will be under tests for about a month or so and is expected to be fully functional by mid-2020. This is the third airport in and around Cairo. In fact The Capital International Airport -as it is called- is just 44 miles from from Cairo and has been built to help relieve pressure on the Cairo International Airport. "The importance of the Capital Airport is that it partially eases the pressure on Cairo International Airport and Sphinx Airport," Aviation Minister Younis Al-Masry said during interviews with the media.

Protests in Hong Kong have now affected the flying public. More than 200 flights were cancelled on Monday August 5th. "The Airport Authority advises passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information, and to proceed to the airport only when their seats and flight time have been confirmed," the Authority suggested in a statement. Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines were among the airlines hit by the cancellations.

China Southern has now made a date for its first flight from the new Daxing International Airport in Beijing. They say the first flight is likely to be September 20th which would be ahead of the airports official scheduled opening. With operational simulations going on to ensure the facility is ready to open to the public the airport is expected to enter service by the end of this month. Daxing recently completed its fifth set of simulations, this round utilized around 9,000 persons and 140 flights. .The sixth and last round of simulations is expected to happen in a few days and naturally will aim to iron out any issues prior to service. Daxing will see operators from outside of the region setting up there with airlines such as LOT, British Airways and Finnair confirming.

The third runway for Moscow's Shermetyevo Airport is finally complete and operational. It came into service today, September 19th after being under construction for several years (10 years) after it was faced with several delays. The 10,500-foot runway will now double the capacity of the operations at the airport. Deputy Director of Operations at the Shermetyevo Airport Andrei Nikulin says, "Overall, the third runway will take the hourly number [of movements] up to 90 from 55," "This is consistent with our objective to increase annual throughput capacity to over 80 million passengers by 2026."

A new airport as been officially opened in North Dakota. It is called the Williston Basin International Airport (XWA) and it is a brand new 273-million dollar facility billed to replace the old Sloulin Field. The old Sloulin facility was pass its prime and did not meet today's standards set out by the FAA. Increased demand for commercial airline and business aviation travel in the region prompted the need for a replacement for Sloulin Field (ISN), built in 1947. The previous regional airport did not meet current FAA requirements for today’s larger and heavier aircraft, with a runway slope that exceeded minimums and taxiways too close to the main runway.

A brand new 1.3 billion dollar airport terminal has opened at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in the United States. You will find 35 gates serving 16 airlines across 3 concourses. This is now the third airport to have a permanent gate-pass scheme. This basically permits non-flying persons access to the terminal to shop, dine and accompany flying passengers to their gates. The terminal encompasses nearly 1 million square-feet (927,000 sq ft) and is a natural light-filled space.

Toronto's Pearson International has been voted as the best large airport in the North American area for the third year in a row. The distinction is given by Airports Council International (ACI). They are the first North American airport to win three consecutive years in the 40 million passenger plus category. Some new experiences and services were added to the airport last year that help the passenger experience even more. New shops were added especially a few high-end ones like Chanel and Hugo Boss. Partnership was made with Rogers Communications to provide TV service in the terminals. More flights were added in 2019 too with Canadian carriers like Westjet and Air Canada expanding to Quito (Ecuador) and Westjet to Barcelona (Spain)...other services were added to Italy, Phillippines, U.S, Mexico City, India and Italy with other airlines.
