Apparently there has been another incident involving a drone striking a commercial aircraft. The last publicized incident involved one crashing into the winglet of an airliner and ripping it off in the process. The current situation involved a British Airways Airbus A320 which was carrying 132 passengers and five crew members. The aircraft landed safely without problems at Heathrow Airport and wash inspected by engineers and deemed fit to fly its following route.

The first Bell 525 test aircraft ended in horror after it crashed killing the two member flight test crew. The so-called 525 Relentless program is now set back thanks to the loss of the aircraft and experienced test crew. The aircraft went down on July 6th in central Texas. “We’re working with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident and will provide further details as they come available,” says Bell in a statement released on Twitter.

The Hybrid Air Vehicle Airlander 10 has exited the large hangar it was housed in and now is in the open where testing will commence. Following the completion of all indoor testing, the Airlander 10, the world’s largest aircraft, successfully exited the hangar for the first time at 4 o'clock this morning (at the time) . Technical Director, Mike Durham stated, "Last week we successfully completed our final in-hangar all engines, all generators, all systems testing. My thanks to the whole business for getting us here. The entire team is looking forward to the final series of tests outside before taking to the skies for the first time." Being the largest aircraft in the world, exiting the hangar was a very delicate operation as there was only a 6m clearance from the fin tip to the sides of the hangar doors. It took around 5 minutes for the Airlander to clear the hangar and then a further 30 minutes for her be towed to rest at the primary mast site - one of the two that have been specially prepared for her on the airfield.

An explosion at Cape Canaveral on 1 September destroyed both a SpaceX Falcon rocket and a $200 million satellite that would have increased internet access in Sub-Saharan Africa. Shortly after 9:00 an anomaly on the launch pad caused a massive explosion that destroyed both the rocket and its payload, SpaceX says in a statement on Twitter. The launch pad was clear and there were no injuries, SpaceX says. The rocket would have carried the $200 million, 5,500 kg Amos-6 satellite, built by Israel Aerospace Industries, which was designed to serve in space for at least 16 years, according IAI. Amos-6 replaces the Amos-2 communications satellite, which ends its service in 2016. Last year, Facebook partnered with Eutelsat Communications to use the broadband payload on the Amos-6 to expand internet coverage in West, East and Southern Africa. (FG)

Another suspected drunk driver has ignored police barracades and plowed into an EMS helicopter picking up a patient, this time early yesterday morning outside Gallup, New Mexico, on Highway 566. Fortunately, the aircraft's engine had been shut down and no one was aboard when Glenn Livingston, 26, rammed his automobile into a 2013 Airbus Helicopters AS350B3. The helicopter—registered as N855MB to Guardian Flight of South Jordan, Utah, and operated by the Air Medical Resource Group as Gallup Med Flight—was knocked on its side and heavily damaged, as was a nearby fire truck. Livingston was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and other infractions. The makeshift landing zone had been set up to transport a patient injured in a traffic accident nearby. That patient was subsequently transported without further incident (AIN)

News on that Cessna Citation that crashed off Lake Erie at the end of the year. Personnel involved in the search have begun recovering large portions of the Cessna Citation CJ4 that had disappeared on December 29 over Lake Erie approximately two miles offshore. So far, it is reported that seats and debris belonging to portions of the fuselage have been recovered. The NTSB is now in possession of the cockpit voice recorder. The registration of the aircraft is said to be N614SB. The Citation reportedly departed from Runway 24R at Cleveland-Burke Lakefront Airport, made a right turn over Lake Erie and maxed out at approximately 3,000 feet before being involved in 'high speed' descent that terminated the flight. All six aboard the flight died in the crash.

Recent investigations reveal a bullet lodged in the left wing of a LATAM Brazil Boeing 767-300. The aircraft registered PT-MSY somehow had the bullet in its wing but investigations are ongoing. The aircraft entered pre-scheduled maintenance to carry out further investigations. This aircraft was the first aircraft and 767 in their fleet to be repainted in the LATAM Brazil scheme and also brought the Olympic Torch from Geneva to Rio.

The crash of a Beechcraft King Air C90GT on Thursday has taken the life of the Brazilian Supreme Court justice overseeing the criminal probe into that country's sweeping national corruption investigation generically known as “Car Wash.” Rain and low visibility were reported in the area at the time, and witnesses reported seeing the turboprop twin in a steep bank before it hit the water. The flight originated 80 minutes earlier in São Paulo.Judge Teori Zavascki, 68, and all three others aboard were killed when the 2007 King Air, registered to Brazilian luxury hotel chain Emiliano, crashed into the ocean off Rasa Island while approaching the resort town of Paraty. Emiliano's CEO, Carlos Filgueiras, was also killed in the accident. (AIN)

An Avianca crew were hospitalized after experiencing turbulence on one of their Airbus A319s flying from San Jose to Bogota as AV693 yesterday (January 23rd 2020). As the aircraft reached the Panama/Colombia border the aircraft diverted to Panama. Avianca said that, as a result of initial reviews, three crew members and a passenger were taken to hospital for more detailed examination. The image below is via Teledario which suggests the interior of the aircraft was damaged during the turbulence.

Looks like Air Italy has suspended flights and reportedly is near bankruptcy. This would be the first airline casualty of 2020. This also clearly was not as good a buy as Qatar Airways boss Akbar Al Baker was expected especially when he made those claims that Air Italy would become Italy's new head airline taking out Alitalia. Qatar Airways has a 49 percent stake in the airline, if they had their way it probably would have been more but current rules say that a foreign investor(s) cannot have more than 49% stake in a European airline.
