"Southern Sky Aviation is excited the runway KPQL has reopened," said Darryl Brewer, president of the company’s FBO division. "We look forward to sharing our freshly updated FBO with the aviation community." During the downtime that the runway was being renovated they took the time to also update the FBO terminal. The FBO plans to host a grand reopening of the FBO on April 13th. Here is a sneak peek at the terminal.

FBOs in Europe in general continue to see a surge in business aviation traffic especially with certain European events being held. For example for Design Week in Italy, the country's Malpensa and Linate facilities saw over 1,100 bizav movements. Design Week itself attracted more than 400,000 visitors. Over 2021 that is business being up 75 percent and the majority of the flights were of International origin.

In France they had a big uptick as well in May with the hosting of the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. Business aviation traffic for may was up 56 percent over 2021 levels.

Atlantic and Ross Aviation have now finalized their merger. The merger brought an additional 19 FBOs under the Atlantic Aviation banner, including three airports where Ross had two separate FBOs. In the interim between the announcement of the deal and its finalization, Ross also acquired the Air Service Hawaii chain and its six locations. "'Local everywhere’ is more than just a slogan," said Atlantic CEO Lou Pepper. "It’s a belief that ensures we’re not only where our customers want to be, but also that we reflect the culture of all of our local communities. It’s a meaningful point of differentiation over a cookie-cutter approach to service and it’s something our customers truly appreciate."

In an embarrassing turn of events an FBO is forced to close its doors. Richmond Executive Aviation (REA) is the FBO in question. It was one of two FBOs at Virginia’s Richmond Executive-Chesterfield County Airport (KFCI). It has been shut down by having its 30-year lease terminated by the county authority. Allegedly there have been multiple defaults of the airport’s contracted minimum standards.

Al Bateen executive airport has reopened for business after an extensive upgrading period. Close cooperation between the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Abu Dhabi Airports (AD Airports) during the project followed all the necessary regulatory frameworks to ensure the highest level of compliance, and all the necessary approvals were received without delay. The essential work, completed in under 90 days, involved the resurfacing and widening of the existing 3.2-kilometer runway to accommodate wide-body aircrafts in addition to a substantial new boundary wall, upgraded ground lighting, enhanced signage and landscape. Another major part of the work completed was the upgrade and the refurbishment of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) at Al Bateen Executive Airport, certifying the airport to operate Code 4D Aircrafts. As part of the refurbishment activities, over 105,000 tons of asphalt was used on varying areas of the runway, shoulder areas of runway and taxiways, amounting to approximately 240,000 square meters and a combined 23 kilometers of cable were laid down, in addition to 15.5 kilometers of duct and the installation of over 400 new manholes.
