Cessna Aircraft and the Aviation Industry Corp of China (Avic) have signed “two strategic agreements to jointly develop general and business aviation in the People’s Republic of China”. In an announcement broad on concept and thin on detail, Cessna said, “The agreements together pave the way for a range of business jets, utility single-engine turboprops and single-engine piston aircraft to be manufactured and certified in China.”

The Cessna Citation CJ 525 look like they are going to be getting some new generation winglets but not just any winglets, 'active winglets'. What are active winglets you may ask?

The active winglets will be coming from Tamarack Aerospace and they have an order already for three shipsets of the winglets ordered by Premier Jet Aviation in Florida. PJA intends to use the special winglets on retrofits to Cessna Citation Jet 525 models as part of its CJ 'Plus' retrofit.

Looks like owners of Cessna 172, 182 and 206 piston aircraft are in for Astronic Max-Viz infrared enhanced Vision. As a retrofit to those aircraft the cost is expected to be around $30,000 and just over 22,000 dollars if put in on aaft of the types listed. You will be getting a wing-mounted infrared camera that feeds into the Garmin 1000 multi-function display.

Cessna has a grand plan in the works, that of course many of you know about. It is to introduce as many as six new or revamped aircraft to the market in 2013. Basically it is part of their total strategy to build a new pipeline of products that will come to market just as the the same market for light and midsized business jets is expected to strengthen, according to executives.

Well remember that Cessna is planning to certify a new Sovereign and Citation X that will incorporate Garmin G5000 avionics, integrated automatic throttles and the Cessna Clarity cabin. Furthermore, the Mustang M2 is on target for certification in the first half of this year. Cessna is expected to start deliveries of the re-engined, more powerful Grand Caravan EX as well as reintroduce an improved Corvalis TTx. Finally they expect to bring the diesel Turbo Skylane JT-A.

Cessna says it will stand behind lithium-ion battery tech...

Cessna is standing behind the use of lithium-ion batteries in its business jets despite high-profile incidents involving the battery-type on Boeing 787-8 aircraft. By Q2 2013, Cessna intends on making them available to customers of four of their aircraft models. Cessna themselves issued an emergency recall of lithium-ion batteries introduced on the CJ4+ Citation Jet. Upon requalifying the batteries, Cessna will offer them on the CJ4+, Sovereign, Citation X and Citation M2.

Cessna hopes are up for 2013 deliveries

After a sluggish end to the 2012 year, airframer Cessna is hoping for better results in 2013. 2013 should see the emergence of new Citation X, Citation M2 and the Sovereign types. However, you may not see this resurgence until later in the year with these models coming in the third and fourth quarters.

Q4 revenues for the business and general aviation manufacturer plunged by some 10% to $901 million as jet deliveries dived from 67 to 53. Jet deliveries for 2012 slipped by two to 183 compared with 2011 figures.
