Airbus has officially begun manufacturing the A220 in the U.S. The first team of A220 production workers began work at Airbus’ Mobile, Alabama-based production facility following their recent return from on-the-job training in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, where the A220 programme and primary final assembly line are located.

"The expansion of our commercial aircraft production in Mobile to a second product line – with 400 additional jobs to support it – further solidifies Airbus’ standing as a truly global aircraft manufacturer, and confirms without a doubt that Airbus is an important part of America’s manufacturing landscape," said Airbus Americas Chairman & CEO C. Virgin Atlantic has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft ironically just after British Airways first unit of the type entered service. Virgin naturally is now the second UK-based airline to take delivery of an A35K. The aircraft is registered G-VLUX and is the first of twelve they have on order with Airbus. These planes will naturally mark the death of Virgin's current quad-engine fleet, the Boeing 747 and the A340.

Delays with the 777X program start to fan out. The smaller variant of the 777X program, the 777-8 will delay as well and likely have an impact on Project Sunrise. If you do not know what Project Sunrise is, it is Australian carrier Qantas' effort to a Sydney to London or Paris route using the 777-8 or the Airbus A350 ULR proposal by the year 2022. Boeing has apparently slowed down development of the smaller variant of the 777X so as to ensure they have a seamless transition into service.
"We reviewed our development program schedule and the needs of our current 777X customers and decided to adjust the schedule," a Boeing spokesman said. "The adjustment reduces risk in our development program, ensuring a more seamless transition to the 777-8. We continue to engage with our current and potential customers on how we can meet their fleet needs. This includes our valued customer Qantas."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued two airworthiness directives (AD) for the Airbus A380 Operators that have their aircraft fitted with Engine Alliance (EA) GP7200 are being instructed to conduct independent inspections for cracking and wear. In specific, all Engine Alliance GP7270, GP7272, and GP7277 powerplants, the AD requires an initial inspection of the high-pressure compressor-HPC stage 6 seal ring for correct installation, also an inspection of the HPC stages 2-5 spool for cracks or missing coating.

Thai Airways has unveiled a new livery adorning one of their Boeing 777-300ERs. It is called the The Suphannahong Royal Barge livery, the registration on the aircraft is HS-TKF. Here is a look at the new livery. Of course the 77W isn't the first aircraft in the Thai fleet to wear a Royal Barge livery. Back in 1999, the airline adorned one of its 747s with a barge livery. On the 77W this livery will remain from August 2019 until 31st December 2022.

Air Baltic is celebrating 30 years of the Baltic Way with three of their Airbus A220s painted in special liveries to commemorate the occasion. So what's the Baltic Way? In August 1989 nearly 2 million persons between Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania joined hands forming a human chain. It demonstrated the will of these countries to leave the Soviet Union but in a peaceful way. It got the attention of the world at the time. This month of course is 30 years since the 'Baltic Way' happened and Air Baltic has chosen to celebrate the 30th anniversary at Riga International Airport with three of their A220s painted in festive liveries for the event.
