It appears that EuroAtlantic, a company that wetleases jets is looking to introduce the Boeing 787 to its fleet of planes. It won't be a brand new aircraft from the Boeing factory but a second hand one that might just be coming from Mexican airline AeroMexico. It will be a former AeroMexico Boeing 787-8 variant. This is basically happening because of how the fallout from the Corona Virus pandemic has affected AeroMexico causing them to downsize to meet slack passenger demand. As a result they retired a 787-8 unit from their fleet and it will now take up residence with Euro Atlantic. This means Euro Atlantic will be the first Portuguese carrier to fly the 787. The aircraft has been identified as N961AM, a Boeing 787 leased from lessor Aer Cap in 2013. This jet was put down from AeroMexico service just before the end of 2020. Euro Atlantic is set to take delivery of the aircraft sometime this Summer.

January saw Airbus hand over 21 aircraft to varying customers around the world but they received no orders for any new aircraft for the first month of 2021. The deliveries for January were a pretty low figure but after the mad rush to deliver as many aircraft in December before the year turned we can see why. At least one of those new deliveries was an Airbus ACJ319neo which flew to Basel which suggests a completions facility to have the bespoke cabin installed. Compare 21 deliveries in January to 89 deliveries in December 2020.

It appears that LAN Argentina has given up the ghost and has ceased operations. LATAM is closing down its LAN Argentina branch after 15 years of operation. That airline hasn't flown in the last 8 months or so since June 2020. Based on how the company sees it, there is no real sustainable path forward thanks to the ravishing effects of COVID.

Looks like the MAX is gearing up to recommence service in Europe soon. Airline Smartwings is planning 737 MAX flights. If the schedule of the airline is correct, it will put a MAX 8 on a Prague to Palma de Mallorca run on February 25th. Norwegian was expected to have the first MAX flight back initially since EASA ungrounded the plane type.

Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris is continuing to expand with the Airbus A320neo and they have chosen Pratt & Whitney (P&W) to power these aircraft with the GTF powerplant. We are looking at aan additional 80 A320neo family aircraft. under this engine manufacturer. Naturally to go along with the powerplants is the servicing of them and with that Pratt & Whitney is also providing Volaris with engine maintenance through a long-term EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement. Volaris previously placed an order for 44 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft. This brings Volaris’ total commitment to 124 GTF-powered aircraft. The Mexican airline is certainly being a 'friend' of P&W.
