  1. Aerion Hunts For U.S-based Factory Site For AS2 Production
Aerion is looking to set-up their manufacturing facilities for the AS2 Supersonic executive jet in the United States and has formally begun searching for sites suitable for that purpose. Of course a number of factors, specific to Aerion's preference will dictate where the factory and associated sites are to be located. Aerion CEO Doug Nichols said, "we’re looking for a state-of-the art campus of more than 100 acres on a major airport with a minimum 9,000-foot runway, and other special geophysical requirements." One of those other important requirements is a supersonic flight test area located no more than 200 miles away and maybe over the sea.
  2. With the Airbus Group behind Aerion, they will be manufacturing major components of the jet. This means the transportation and shipment facets of the operation have to be fully considered. Aerion will evaluate numerous factors including: airport suitability; road and rail infrastructure; proximity to a deep-water port for shipped structures and equipment; local aerospace workforce; state and local regulations; quality of life; and regional educational institutions. Once identified, Aerion expects to announce the location in the first half of 2016. Ground breaking is planned for 2018. Just remember that the Aerion AS2 Supersonic Executive jet is planned for first flight in 2021 and certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by 2023 with service entry that same year.
