  1. Collins Aerospace and BOOM Supersonic team Up
The race to providing a supersonic commercial and executive jet is between two main players at this point, BOOM supersonic and Aerion. Based on the press material coming out from both camps it would appear that practically Aerion has more on the table than Boom especially with earlier times to assembly and even entry into service. However, Boom Supersonic is working behind the scenes to shore up the expertise they have involved in most departments for their Overture supersonic aircraft. The latest news is that they have signed on a strategic partnership with Collins Aerospace.
  2. What does this partnership with Collins Aerospace look like? Collins will work alongside BOOM to engineer and develop the inlet, nacelles as well as exhaust system technologies. Collins are well versed in these areas and are confident that their experience and knowledge in these areas can bring about a fuel-burn reduction and provide cutting-edge acoustics for cleaner and quieter supersonic flight. "Through improved acoustics and lightweight materials systems, we can provide the next generation of supersonic propulsion systems with the nacelle technologies that not only enable higher performance and lower fuel burn, but also quieter operation," said Marc Duvall, president, Aerostructures, Collins Aerospace. "Having completed 19 nacelle certification programs over the past decade, we’re uniquely positioned to collaborate with Boom Supersonic to create new propulsion-system solutions that will be key enablers of Overture’s success." At this stage, BOOM is targeting 2025 for the first Overture aircraft to roll out and by 2029 entry into service after the requisite certification testing and flights have concluded.
