  1. Electra Aero Signs Contract With NASA On eSTOL Aircraft
Electra Aero has received a significant boost to the development of their eSTOL aircraft. eSTOL means electric ultra-Short TakeOff and Landing. The boost has come from the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) which aims to mature aerodynamic "blown lift" technologies for electric ultra-short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) aircraft allowing it to come to market faster. In 2022 the plan is for Electra Aero to have a hybrid eSTOL tech demonstrator carrying two persons.
  2. What is amazing about the prospect of this aircraft is it is touted to be able to land and take off in under 150-feet. While it isn't an eVTOL (electric Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft it definitely will not need a large airport to operate on saving on infrastructure build-out and ultimately, money. It is to utilize a 150-kW hybrid-electric turbo-generator to power eight electric motors and charge a custom battery system during flight. Looking further into the future in terms of a timeline for an FAA certified customer-bound product from Electra Aero. The company is presently aiming to have FAA certification by 2026 for an aircraft capable of flying seven passengers and a pilot, 500 miles. The target market for this aircraft is urban and regional air mobility markets, sustainability-focused airline operations, "middle mile" cargo logistics, and air ambulance services.
