  1. Stellantis; Archer Collaborating On Archer Manufacturing
The last two Archer eVTOL articles JF published hinted at the current collaboration between automotive giant Stellantis and Archer Aviation but now that 2023 has emerged we are alot closer to seeing the fruits of this collaboration. Stellantis has actually been working with Archer Aviation for the last two years behind the scenes. Their work together isn't anything that just happened in the last few months. Part of Stellantis purpose is to help with funding for growth for Archer Aviation. Also to roll-out the manufacturing process and facility that the budding airframer needs for construction and production.
  2. Archer Aviation announced that it identified the site of its manufacturing facility which will be in Covington, Georgia. By 2024 the company wants to start manufacture of the Archer Midnight eVTOL. Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO, commented: "We’ve been working closely with Archer for the past two years, and I am continually impressed by their ingenuity and unwavering commitment to deliver. Deepening our partnership with Archer as a strategic investor with plans for growing our shareholding demonstrates how Stellantis is pushing the boundaries to provide sustainable freedom of mobility, from the road to the sky. Supporting Archer with our manufacturing expertise is another example of how Stellantis will lead the way the world moves."
  3. It is one thing to test prototypes and achieve certain parameter and data brackets. It is also another thing to be able to transition (just like eVTOLs transition from hover to forward flight) into commercialization. Archer Aviation is bringing its own world-class team of eVTOL, electric powertrain and certification experts to the table. On the other hand Stellantis will provide its own advanced manufacturing technology and expertise along with its experienced personnel involved as well as its capital to this collaboration. Archer once it plays its cards correctly will have access to hundreds of millions of dollars going forward. The Archer Midnight eVTOL will be able to carry four passengers plus the pilot for around 100 miles. The payload is said to be just above 1,000 lbs and the ideal trips will be back-to-back trips lasting 20 miles. Top-up charges of just 10 minutes for the aircraft can be expected.
