Transport Canada Certifies RR Pearl 15 For Global 5500; 6500 The stars are aligning well for Bombardier concerning the in-development Global 5500 and 6500. The local Certification body Transport Canada has given the nod to the Canadian airframer Bombardier regarding the Rolls Royce Pearl 15 powerplants that will power the new Global 5500 and 6500. As a reminder these new jets are not necessarily clean-sheet designs but upgraded versions of the Global 5000 and 6000.
The differences include, of course the subject of the matter, the new Rolls Royce Pearl 15 powerplants. These engines are more powerful than the BR710 that exists on the 5000 and 6000 presently. They share a similar nacelle housing but the Peal 15s are more powerful with 15,125 lbs of thrust (maximum certificated thrust is 12,250 lbs). The new engines are approximately 20 percent better on nitrogen oxide emissions. 7 percent better fuel consumption and near 2 decibels quieter. Other differences between the new Global members include new wings from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Combined Vision System (CVS) in the cockpit and a different interior to improve the passenger experience.
