XTI Aerospace Shelves/Pauses TriFan 600 VTOL Program News from XTI Aerospace suggests that the company has now shelved the development of the TriFan 600 VTOL. One of the last news pieces JF published on the TriFan 600 VTOL was an update on the said aircraft development. However, the company never really gave any concrete or definitive timelines for first flights, certification schedules or entry into service. The latest news is that the Colorado-based company has shelved the TriFan 600 VTOL project to focus squarely on drones.
XTI chairman and CEO Scott Pomeroy said, "It is effectively being put on a diet, a significant cost diet…while we go through that evaluation process". This was the wording from a town hall meeting with investors earlier in the month where emphasis will no longer be on this 'flagship product'...it has been defunded. As aforementioned, XTI now intends to focus on drones and this can be seen in some of their most recent moves. Just in November, 2025 they acquired companies Drone Nerds and Anzu Robotics.
The TriFan VTOL program appeared to have been going fairly slowly after being launched around 2013 and still did not field a full-sized/scale flight-test vehicle in those 13 years. The VTOL was billed as a future alternative to some business jets and helicopters.
The TriFan VTOL was supposed to offer jet-like speed, helicopter accessibility, and long-range fixed wing performance in one certified vertical lift aircraft designed for multi-capable mission sets. Up to 6 passengers plus the pilot would have been carried in the aircraft. Designed to fly at up to 25,000-feet and have a range of 1,000 nautical miles from helipad to helipad in VTOL model. Of course the aircraft could operated from short runways too....at least that was the idea. For more information: XTI Aerospace Englewood, CO www.xtiaerospace.com ***
