Who can remember when Piper actually were seriously working on a jet! Not a fast turboprop but a jet! Yes they had the Piper Jet and below you can see a glimpse of the one and only type when it was on its last flight...the video shows startup and taxi off. It started off as the PA-47 Piper Jet but when Piper's ownership changed hands, the jet got a bit of a redesign and was renamed as the Piper Jet Altaire. Only one was built and it was projected to cost just under 2 million dollars when it was due to hit the market. It carried a single Williams FJ44 engine on the tail. In the 3rd Quarter of 2011 Piper shelved the project. This lone prototype below was sent to the Florida Air Museum where it is today.
