Qatar Airways’ first A380 took off from Toulouse on its maiden flight to Hamburg where the aircraft will be fitted with its cabin before being painted. The Doha based carrier has firm orders for ten A380s and will become the eleventh airline to join the prestigious club of A380 operators when it takes delivery of this aircraft in 2014. Since first entering service in 2007, 108 A380s are in operation with ten world class carriers and have accumulated over one million flight hours in more than 120,000 commercial flights. Airbus China has confirmed that it received firm commitment for at least 100 A320neos from Chinese customers. There is also potential for several hundreds more of the re-engined narrowbody aircraft, there is discussion presently going on about that. In an interview with journalists at Airbus China's office in Beijing, its president Eric Chen disclosed that the commitment for the 100 Neos comes from flag carrier Air China and state-owned leasing company ICBC Leasing, and are subjected to approvals from the local government. If approved, this would be one of China's first Neo orders

Congratulations to British Airways as their A380 is in the skies for its first long haul flight to Los Angeles.
Vietnamese low-cost operator VietJetAir has lightly signed to obtain 62 A320-family aircraft and also the purchase rights for a possible 30 more. The operator also intends to lease a further eight Airbuses from other parties. This could total the operator's commitment to as many as 100 Airbus single-aisle jets. VietJetAir's MoU, disclosed in the week of Beijing's Aviation Expo, covers 42 A320neo aircraft plus 14 baseline A320s and six A321s.

Lots of Airbus orders these days... Start-up Chinese carrier Qingdao Airlines has placed an order for 23 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The order comprises five standard A320s and 18 A320neo aircraft, Airbus said in a statement. Deliveries will begin in 2016 although Qingdao will commence services in 2014 using leased A320 aircraft. The order is subject to central government approval.
Asiana's first Airbus A380 enters final assembly stages. The South Korean carrier is expected to take delivery of the new double-decker Airbus in Q2 of 2014. When it does so, Asiana will become the 12th carrier to fly A380s. Asiana's A380s will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines. In total, they ordered six A380s back in 2011.

German flag-carrier Lufthansa appears to have cancelled some orders for Airbus A380s. The airline's long-haul order for 25 A350-900s features in the latest revision of the airframer's backlog. But the update also reveals that the carrier has reduced its A380 orders from 17 to 14, a reduction by 3 aircraft of the type.
