Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Luxair, the national airline of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has placed a firm order for a Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner and has also taken an option for an additional Q400 NextGen aircraft. The airline currently operates a fleet of six Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft. Based on the list price of the Q400 NextGen airliner, the firm order is valued at approximately $32.2 million USD. The value could increase to $65.78 million USD should Luxair exercise its option.

“As part of our ongoing plan to further strengthen our business and increase regional frequencies, we have been utilizing the Q400 aircraft for over seven years, and today we are pleased to announce that our fleet modernization continues with the addition of another one of these high performance turboprops,” said Adrien Ney, President and Chief Executive Officer, Luxair. “The Q400 NextGen aircraft have provided us with operating and performance flexibility, while enhancing passenger convenience and overall comfort.”

“Luxair, though steeped in over 50 years of aviation heritage, has grown today into one of the most modern airlines with one of the youngest fleets in Europe. The many attributes of the Q400 NextGen aircraft – its size, speed, comfort, economics and environmental credentials – have helped position Luxair as a leader in the short- to medium-haul market segment,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “Overall, the Q400 NextGen aircraft continues to deliver unmatched performance and operating economics and we’re delighted that Luxair has been experiencing success with its fleet,” added Mr. Arcamone.

Bombardier to Launch Challenger 605 MAX Program to Enhance Direct Maintenance Costs and Customer Experience

Bombardier Aerospace today reinforced its leadership in providing industry-leading in-service solutions for its operators with the announcement of its new Challenger 605 MAX Program. The proactive program is designed to further reduce direct maintenance costs (DMC) and improve overall customer experience of the in-service Challenger 605 business jet fleet.

Under the Challenger 605 MAX Program, Bombardier will replace key components with the latest configurations that meet the baseline operational level of the current production model. At virtually no cost, Bombardier will provide customers with these upgrades in order to improve dispatch availability, significantly reduce DMCs, increase component meantime between unscheduled removals (MTBUR), lower No-Fault-Found rates and improve customer experience.

The Challenger 605 MAX Program builds on the impressive success of the Challenger 300 MAX Program. Under the Challenger 300 MAX Program, which was launched in 2012, the company has installed over 4,000 components on some 340 Challenger 300 aircraft. Bombardier is the first aircraft manufacturer to voluntarily offer fleet reliability initiatives of this nature and scale.

Bombardier Evolves Maintenance Intervals for a Wide Range of Business Aircraft Operators

Bombardier Aerospace has once again demonstrated its determination to lead the way in reducing operating costs for its business aircraft operators with the introduction of evolved maintenance intervals for the Learjet 40, Learjet 45, Challenger 300, Challenger 604, Challenger 605 and Global aircraft. Under the aircraft’s respective maintenance programs, maintenance intervals for hourly tasks and monthly checks are evolving by as much as 50 per cent or more.

The enhanced maintenance intervals will result in a number of key benefits for Bombardier operators, including significantly lower direct maintenance costs, less downtime for the aircraft and reduced maintenance workload (and related spares consumption), with no compromise to the inherent safety and reliability of the aircraft. Learjet 40 and Learjet 45 operators, for example, could see their scheduled labour maintenance costs decrease by almost 50 per cent and their dispatch availability improve by 250 days (over a 20-year period based on typical annual usage). The maintenance interval improvements announced today are part of a broader plan to provide value to Bombardier operators through competitive, industry-leading in-service programs.

“Bombardier is being proactive in driving the optimization of maintenance programs for its aircraft,” said Andy Nureddin, Vice President, Customer Services and Support, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “With these evolved maintenance intervals, our operators stand to benefit from significant savings and best-in-class operating costs. We are continuously seeking out solutions to improve their experience and put customers first.”

To date, improvements to the maintenance intervals for Challenger 300 aircraft have received final approval from Transport Canada (TC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), with a similar endorsement for Learjet 40 and Learjet 45 aircraft. The Challenger 604, Challenger 605 and Global aircraft programs are expected to follow in the coming months. The respective evolved maintenance program for Challenger 300 aircraft operators was recently launched in July 2013. The Learjet 40 and Learjet 45 aircraft evolved maintenance program was released earlier this month with Challenger 604, Challenger 605 and Global aircraft scheduled to be issued in 2014.

Bombardier reported a 15 percent fall in net profit and said both aircraft orders and deliveries fell in the third quarter. Aerospace revenue fell 13 percent to USD$2 billion. Bombardier, the world's fourth largest plane maker, delivered 45 aircraft during the quarter, down from 57 a year earlier. Net orders fell to 26 aircraft, from 83. The backlog in the aerospace division was USSD32.9 billion as of September 30, unchanged from December 31.

"In aerospace, results were in line with our guidance, but the low order intake and overall market conditions were a disappointment," chief executive Pierre Beaudoin said on Thursday. Bombardier, the world's largest train maker, said revenue in that division rose nearly 11 percent to USD$2.1 billion. The order backlog in the transport unit was USD$32.6 billion as of September 30, up marginally from December 31. The company also said that Google chief financial officer Patrick Pichette would join the board.

Much attention has been focused this year on Bombardier's new CSeries aircraft, which was unveiled in March and had its first flight in September after months of delays. The company is hoping the aircraft family can catapult it into the low end of a market now dominated by Boeing and Airbus. But firm orders for the CSeries are moderate so far at 177, as potential buyers wait for flight test results to validate the company's claims about the new jet's fuel efficiency and cost savings potential. Bombardier's net profit fell to USD$147 million in the quarter ended September 30, from USD$172 million a year earlier. Revenue dipped marginally to USD$4.1 billion.

Bombardier Aerospace today announced the appointment of Éric Martel as President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. Mr. Martel succeeds Steve Ridolfi, who last week was appointed Senior Vice President, Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions, Bombardier Inc., reporting to Pierre Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. Both of these appointments are effective January 1, 2014.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Steve on his new position and wish him continued success,” said Guy C. Hachey, President and Chief Operating Officer, Bombardier Aerospace. “Steve has made countless contributions to Aerospace throughout his career, and this move to the corporate office will assuredly benefit the entire organization. “We are fortunate to have a solid succession plan in place with a resource of accomplished leaders who are ready to take on the challenges ahead,” Mr. Hachey continued. “As such, I am extremely pleased to announce that Éric Martel has been appointed President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. Over the course of Éric’s tenure at Bombardier, he has held numerous positions with increasing responsibilities, including President, Bombardier Customer Services & Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft since 2011. Éric comes to this new position with a proven and very successful track record.”

Following Éric Martel’s nomination, Bombardier Aerospace also announced the appointment of Michel Ouellette as President, Bombardier Customer Services & Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft, effective January 1, 2014.

“I am also very pleased to welcome Michel Ouellette to the Aerospace Leadership Team,” added Mr. Hachey. “Michel has been with the Company for over 20 years, and in that time he has consistently risen to hold a number of senior positions within Engineering, Commercial Aircraft and Business Aircraft, most recently as Vice President and General Manager, Global Aircraft Programs. “These appointments come at a critical time for Bombardier Aerospace as we make major investments in product development and continue to grow our services footprint internationally. Lion Air Boss Dampens Hopes Of Early CSeries Deal

Lion Group President Director Rusdi Kirana says there will be no early decision on a Bombardier CSeries firm order, despite the potential for the Canadian-made twinjet to open up untapped 'long-thin' routes in the Indonesian carrier’s rapidly expanding Asia-Pacific network.
