Aer Lingus is getting an Airbus A320NEO that was originally destined to be delivered to a Russian carrier called SmartAvia. It will be the first A320NEO for Aer Lingus. The aircraft has registration EI-NSB and had its first flight earlier in the year. Aer Lingus apparently had an order for two A320NEOs but because the sanctions on Russia stopped anyone from the west dealing with Russia, the aircraft could not be delivered to SmartAvia and Aer Lingus jumped on the opportunity to get the aircraft type much earlier.

Since the Covid pandemic start it has messed-up the delivery schedule for airframers and airlines alike. Argentina based carrier Aerolineas Argentinas has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX in about four years. LV-KEJ is the 6th unit of the MAX expected to join the airline. They received the aircraft over the weekend after it made its long ferry from Seattle to PUJ in Dominican Republic for an overnight before heading down to EZE (Buenos Aires). Before this, the last MAX Aerolineas Argentinas took delivery of was back in 2018, reg LV-HKW.

SAS has entered voluntary bankruptcy in the U.S. Striking by some 1,000 pilots has severely hampered nearly half of SAS’s schedule. This has cascaded and forced the airline to voluntarily enter bankruptcy protection. "A strike at this point is devastating for SAS and puts the company’s future together with the jobs of thousands of colleagues at stake," said SAS president and CEO Anko van der Werff. "The decision to go on strike now demonstrates reckless behavior from the pilots’ unions and a shockingly low understanding of the critical situation that SAS is in."

Lion Air has taken delivery of a new Boeing 737 MAX since the regulatory MAX ban. You might remember that one of the two MAX crashes a few years ago involved a specimen operated by Lion Air (Lion Air 610). The two (the other was a MAX operated by Ethiopian flight 302) combined crashes claimed more than 340 lives. They took delivery of the first of eight 737-8 Maxes from leasing company Aergo Capital. This one will be wearing the Batik livery from Batik Air which belongs to Lion Air.

Airbus confirms the signature of orders with Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Shenzhen Airlines for a total of 292 A320 Family aircraft, demonstrating the positive recovery momentum and prosperous outlook for the Chinese aviation market. Once the relevant criteria are met, these orders will enter the backlog. "These new orders demonstrate the strong confidence in Airbus from our customers. It is also a solid endorsement from our airline customers in China of the performance, quality, fuel efficiency and sustainability of the world's leading family of single aisle aircraft." said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International. "We commend the excellent work by George Xu and the entire Airbus China team as well as our customers’ teams for having brought to conclusion these long and extensive discussions that have taken place throughout the difficult COVID pandemic." By the end of May 2022, the in-service Airbus fleet with Chinese operators totalled over 2,070 aircraft.

Condor has made a significant or aimed at renewing its single-aisle fleet. They have chosen the Airbus A320neo family for the job and made an order for 41 of the aircraft with some being leased and some being direct purchases. The planes will be powered by Pratt & Whitney engines. "Following Condor’s earlier decision to order the A330neo for its long-haul network, we are double grateful the airline has now also selected the Airbus A320neo Family to modernize its single-aisle-fleet following a thorough evaluation process. We are proud of such a strong vote of confidence and welcome Condor as a future all-Airbus operator," says Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International.

Ethiopian Airlines will be the first airline in Africa to have the Airbus A350-1000 after making an order for four A350-1000s after swapping out some A350-900s. Ethiopian Airlines has already ordered 22 A350-900s, of which 16 aircraft have been delivered. With the A350-1000 upsizing, Ethiopian Airlines’ backlog consists of four A350-1000s and two A350-900s. Mikail Houari, President, Airbus Africa and Middle East, said: "We are proud of our strong partnership with Ethiopian Airlines - the first airline in Africa to order and operate the A350-900. In another first, Ethiopian Airlines is once again leading the way in Africa’s aviation sector by introducing the A350-1000, the largest version of the world’s most efficient and technologically advanced passenger aircraft. The A350-900 has delivered extraordinary capability, fuel efficiency, and operational reliability of 99.5 percent together with unbeatable operational flexibility and efficiency, from short to ultra-long-range operations."
