"This is an exciting day for the program and we look forward to building and delivering these multi-role tankers to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF)," said Jamie Burgess, Boeing vice president and KC-46 programme manager. "From the enhanced flight deck to the modernized boom, this tanker will provide unmatched capabilities for Japan."

India has taken delivery of its first Dassault Rafale. In fact four Rafales were handed over in a ceremony at Dassault's production facility near Bordeaux. This is finally a step in the right direction for the Indian Defense Ministry as they have been long looking for a new generation fighter.

An Indian Air Force air-show might be one of the most interesting, eclectic, "mixed bag" assemblages of aircraft by a single nation. Scroll through their aircraft inventory on Wikipedia and you'll see what I mean.

A Sukhoi Su-57 crashed around Christmas Eve with the aircraft being the only casualty as the pilot was able to safely eject. Sources suggest the crash happened in the Khabarovsk region in South-eastern Russia. Apparently a control system failed on the aircraft which sent it into a spiral towards its demise, the pilot ejected at around 2,000 meters. The Su-57 is near operational status for the Russian Air Force. It is unclear if this crash will delay the entry into service of the new type for the Russian Air Force.

Boeing has given an F/A-18 a new lease on life after delivering the first Super Hornet under Service Life Modification to the U.S. Navy. The second SLM jet will deliver by the end of the month, and Boeing will deliver the third F/A-18 in April. The initial Super Hornets delivered under SLM will extend the service life from 6,000 to 7,500 flight hours. Future modification plans in the early 2020s will enable the jets to fly 10,000 hours and incorporate the new Block III capabilities. There are now 15 Super Hornets in SLM on production lines in St. Louis and San Antonio. It takes 18 months to complete modifications on an F/A-18, although that time will be driven down to one year as SLM progresses. Boeing will deliver five more Super Hornets this year.

Here is a look at the first CMV-22B tilt-rotor the U.S Navy just accepted a few days ago. This aircraft is going to be the replacement of the C-2A Greyhound that has been a fixture onboard U.S aircraft carriers as a transport. CMV-22B will be capable of delivering a 2,640kg (6,000lb) load from a shore base to an aircraft carrier 1,150nm (2,130km) away. This is the first of 48 CMV-22B Tiltrotors on order. Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 is expected to accept the aircraft this Summer.

Saab has an order for a number of its Saab 2000 Erieye sensor aircraft. The customer is confidential and specifics surrounding the capability of the aircraft is also hushed. "The industry’s nature is such that due to circumstances concerning the product and customer, further information about the customer will not be announced," says the company. The first example is expected to be delivered in 2020 and the rest shipped through to 2023.

An F-35A Lightning II of the United States Air Force has crashed yesterday near Eglin Air Force Base. The pilot managed to eject safely according to reports and was released from hospital this morning. This is now the second crash at the base in a few days. It is another expensive loss considering a single F-35A cost around 90 million dollars. The other crash in recent days involved an F-22 Raptor also a fifth-generation fighter of the USAF.

The F-15 Eagle received new life with an order from the United States Air Force (USAF). The F-15 Eagle is capable of carrying more weapons than the 5th Generation F-35 fighter. Eight new F-15 Eagles were ordered by the USAF costing around 1.1 billion dollars. These planes are the new upgraded F-15EX Eagles which naturally have more capability and are up to the mark with technology. Many of the upgrades on the new EX model include, "substantially more powerful mission computer, new cockpit displays, a digital backbone, and the Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System (EPAWSS)—an electronic warfare and threat identification system." The F-15EX if needed can load up to 22 AIM-9X Sidewinder and AMRAAM medium range air-to-air missiles. Definitely not stealthy but the stealthy F-35 can only carry 4 AMRAAM missiles.
