It appears that Qatar Executive is looking to ramp up its fleet with Gulfstream aircraft. This also means that they plan to dump a number of the Bombardier aircraft they currently operate. You would remember that they ordered a number of Gulfstream G650ER long range business jets and at present they operate a few that have been delivered since the order was made. Qatar Executive seems to be so pleased with these G650ER aircraft that they ordered three more examples on the first day of the Farnborough Air Show (which started on the 11th of July). Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker says that operator will phase out its Bombardier Global fleet, and covert its remaining Challenger 605s from passenger usage to air ambulance roles.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced it has earned approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to upgrade Gulfstream GIV and GV aircraft with Future Air Navigation System (FANS) over Iridium (FOI) using the TrueNorth Simphonē FANS 1/A+ Data Link Unit (DLU). Once installed, the stand-alone unit enables data connectivity over the Iridium satellite communications (SATCOM) network, allowing for FANS communication in remote coverage areas. “This is a cost-effective, compact and lightweight FANS 1/A+ data link solution that enhances aircraft operations and safety in congested airspace by providing Iridium connectivity and the reliable, truly worldwide communication that comes with that network,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “This system operates as the sole data link service on aircraft without FANS 1/A+-compatible Inmarsat SATCOM installed. On aircraft already fitted with FANS 1/A+-compatible Inmarsat SATCOM, the system functions as a backup data link solution, greatly increasing dispatch reliability because of the redundancy provided.”

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced it has developed the first phase of an intuitive mobile application to help Gulfstream operators streamline flight operations.A companion to Gulfstream’s PlaneBook electronic suite of flight crew information, the new Performance iPad app enables a Gulfstream G650 or G650ER flight crew to quickly calculate precise performance data for the takeoff and landing phases of flight, replacing paper charts and manual calculations. The results are displayed in simple, easy-to-understand graphics, reducing the flight crew’s preparation time and workload and increasing their situational and operational awareness. “The Gulfstream Performance app makes complex information easy to consume for the flight crew because it is presented in a clear and simple visual format,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “The accuracy of the data, the intuitive visual interface and the time-saving features make this app unique and invaluable.”

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. reaffirms its commitment to worldwide customer support with an extensive schedule of 2017 events that began with a pilots forum Jan. 18 in Zurich. The 2017 schedule also includes nine traditional operator forums in the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America, two Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meetings in Savannah and a virtual Operators Conference. The company’s first-ever pilots forum, which was held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, was designed specifically for Gulfstream flight crews. The event, which included presentations on advanced aircraft technology, polar operations, connectivity and the Gulfstream G650 and Gulfstream G650ER, was an interactive collaboration session between pilots and Gulfstream personnel.

The other nine forums, focusing on maintenance and operations, will include fleet status, mandate and technology updates, maintenance management, technical training and pending technical bulletins. In addition, the company will review its fleet support services to ensure operators leverage all available offerings. “These forums are one of many ways we communicate and connect with our customers worldwide,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “Face-to-face meetings with our customers allow us to build and strengthen our relationships with them. We exchange information and learn from each other.”

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today launched Aircraft Ownership Service (AOS), a comprehensive and customizable suite of aircraft maintenance and flight operations services that aircraft owners, flight departments and management companies can tailor to meet their specific needs. AOS, which will initially be available to new aircraft owners and operators, was developed based on feedback from customers, who desire a seamless and simplified aircraft ownership experience. “Aircraft Ownership Service is a customer-driven, comprehensive operational support solution that is the first of its kind in business aviation,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “Its signature feature is flexibility. Enrollees choose from a broad portfolio of services that best meet the needs of their aircraft throughout its lifecycle. They also set the length of the contract term and receive a consolidated monthly invoice.”

Offerings in the Gulfstream AOS program include:
    • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance parts and labor
    • Technical information (publications and subscriptions)
    • Major vendor support programs integration (engines, auxiliary power units, avionics)
    • On-site operational staffing and support
    • Hangar accommodations

“There is no one better qualified to help maintain and operate an aircraft than the original equipment manufacturer,” Zimmerman said. “This program gives operators another opportunity to leverage the strength of Gulfstream — our extensive knowledge of the business jets we build, our worldwide operational experience, our more than 4,000 Product Support employees and our vast network of customer resources.”

The Gulftsream G500 is soon expected to gain full certification from the FAA. The final aircraft is going to be engaged in F&R (functionality and reliability) testing which is the final hurdle in the certification testing before FAA certification will be granted. FTV4 is conducting these tests and will encompass 300 hours to satisfy the FAA's requirements. Approximately 4,250 flight test hours have been amassed across the five testbed aircraft. The G600 is approaching 1400 test hours and that is expected to hit the market later this year if all goes to plan.
