GULFSTREAM EXPANDS SUPPORT NETWORK IN INDIA WITH SPARE PARTS CONSIGNMENT AGREEMENT

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced it has signed an exclusive spare parts consignment agreement with aviation services provider Air Works India Engineering Pvt. Ltd. Under the agreement, Gulfstream positions frequently needed aircraft replacement parts at Air Works’ warehouse in Bengaluru, India, while Air Works arranges for parts warehousing, customs clearance and delivery to customers.

Gulfstream began stocking parts at Air Works’ warehouse adjacent to Bengaluru International Airport in April. The approximate parts value is expected to reach $15 million by the end of 2013. “By having inventory in India, we can expedite delivery of parts to domestic and in-transit customers, quite possibly saving hours or even days,” said Derek Zimmerman, vice president, Product Support Materials, Gulfstream. “This expediency can lower costs for operators and significantly reduce aircraft downtime, particularly during aircraft-on-ground situations.”

The inventory at Air Works includes rotable and consumable parts for all in-production Gulfstream business jets along with out-of-production models such as the GV, GIV and G200. “We are delighted with the signing of this agreement with Gulfstream,” said Ravi Menon, executive director, Air Works. “We have had a longstanding relationship with Gulfstream as their authorized warranty facility in India, and the positioning of consignment stock at our forward stocking location in Bengaluru translates into a tremendous value addition to Gulfstream aircraft owners and operators.”

Gulfstream operators also have access to more than $56 million in parts and materials inventory positioned at three sites in Asia – Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore. Working closely with Air Works personnel is Gulfstream’s Aniruddh Srivastava, regional director, Service Parts Distribution for India. The Gulfstream fleet in India has grown from five aircraft in 2001 to more than 20 today.

Air Works’ Mumbai facility is an authorized warranty center for Gulfstream. Its technicians are authorized by the country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation to work on the G550, G500, GV, GIV, GIV-SP, G200 and G100 models. Another support resource for Gulfstream customers in India is field service representative Kannan Kumar, who is based in Chennai.

GULFSTREAM OPENS SALES AND DESIGN CENTER IN DALLAS

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced it has opened a sales and design center at the company’s facility in Dallas. The 9,300-square-foot (864-square-meter) center enhances the customer experience during the sales and design stages of a Gulfstream business jet by allowing them to see and evaluate potential paint schemes, cabin layouts and interior cabin selections.

Gulfstream Dallas encompasses more than 420,000 square feet (39,019 square meters) and comprises a completions center for Gulfstream mid-cabin aircraft — the new super mid-size G280 and the wide-cabin, high-speed G150 — and a service center for all Gulfstream aircraft.

“With the entry-into-service of the G280, we wanted to offer mid-cabin customers cabin-design capability at the same location where their aircraft is being completed,” said Tray Crow, director, Interior Design. “What they will find is a clean and neutral space that is comfortable and conducive to the process of choosing an aircraft and personalizing its interior to suit their needs.”

The centerpiece of the Dallas Sales and Design Center is a material showroom filled with leathers, fabric swatches, carpet samples and veneers as well as examples of cabin amenities. Using a state-of-the-art, mobile visualization application called DesignBook™, which Gulfstream first demonstrated to customers at the 2012 National Business Aviation Association Meeting & Convention in Orlando, Fla., customers and company personnel can also experiment with various cabin configurations, colors and fabrics.

DesignBook is also available at Gulfstream’s Savannah Sales and Design Center, a similarly equipped 17,900-square-foot (1,663-square-meter) facility that opened in June 2007.

“This technology enables our Interior Design teams to create a highly realistic rendering of a cabin in real time,” Crow said. “With the click of a mouse or touch of a screen, customers can see how different fabrics and colors look together in a particular cabin configuration. We can adjust and refine until the customer gets the desired interior.” The Gulfstream Dallas Sales and Design Center is staffed by designers, Completion Sales executives and support staff.

    GULFSTREAM BEIJING EARNS MAINTENANCE APPROVALS

The Gulfstream Beijing Service Center recently received authorization to service Gulfstream aircraft registered in Hong Kong and Macau. The approval was granted through a Joint Maintenance Management (JMM) agreement among the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong and the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau SAR. Under the agreement, Gulfstream Beijing can perform maintenance and upgrades on airframes, avionics, powerplants and interiors on Gulfstream G550, G450 and G200 aircraft registered in Hong Kong and Macau. Gulfstream Beijing earned CAAC approval in 2012 to work on those models registered in China.

“The JMM approval is welcome news for many of our Hong Kong and Macau operators who travel frequently to Beijing and nearby cities,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “As Gulfstream Beijing grows, our goal is to add authorizations to give our customers more options for maintenance."

Well over 200 Gulfstream aircraft are based in the Asia-Pacific region, including more than 45 in Hong Kong and Macau. Gulfstream Beijing is a joint venture between Gulfstream and Hainan Airlines Group subsidiaries Hainan Aviation Technik and Beijing Capital Airlines Co. Ltd. The Gulfstream technicians based on-site are certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and can support U.S.-based Gulfstream operators of any model in aircraft-on-ground situations in greater China, Japan and South Korea. Gulfstream Beijing is conveniently located at Beijing Capital International Airport. The facility is made up of an 82,000-square-foot (7,618-square-meter) hangar and 22,000 square feet (2,044 square meters) of offices and back shops. Gulfstream is in the process of applying for CAAC authorization to expand the site’s work scope to include the GV and GIV.

Gulfstream opened its first sales and design center that is located external of the United States. It obviously seems to suggest the apparent demand for its business jets from international markets. The 510m² (5,500ft²) facility in central London will serve Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. continues to see significant growth in the size of its customer-operated aircraft fleet in Latin America, especially in Brazil, where the fleet of Gulfstream business jets has nearly quadrupled since 2008. On the opening day of the three-day Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE) 2013 in São Paulo, Gulfstream announced there were 176 customer-operated aircraft based in Latin America, including 39 in Brazil. In 2008, those figures were 92 and 10, respectively.

“Brazil’s economic growth has sparked an increase in trade with countries around the world, most notably China,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “The growth in the number of customers operating Gulfstream business jets in Brazil goes hand-in-hand with that desire to conduct business worldwide –– whether it’s in China, Europe or Africa. We have efficient, high-performance aircraft that are well-suited for doing business around the world.”

To support the growing fleet in Brazil and the region, Gulfstream operates a company-owned service center –– Gulfstream Brazil –– in Sorocaba, near São Paulo. Earlier this month, Gulfstream appointed Adriano Andrade as general manager of the facility. The Brazil native was formerly general manager/director of Dassault Falcon’s service center in Sorocaba. Andrade has also been a supply chain manager for Gulfstream parts consignment partner Morro Vermelho Taxi Aereo LTDA in São Paulo.

Andrade holds a business degree from Universidade Radial in São Paulo and is certified as a mechanical technician.

To assist Gulfstream operators in Brazil and Latin America, Gulfstream recently enhanced its product support network with the hiring of regional sales manager Raquel Sacramento, also a native of Brazil. Sacramento, who is responsible for maintenance and avionics sales in South America, was most recently a technical maintenance sales manager for Lider Aviacão, a Brazil-based business jet services provider. She was also the head of quality at Lider Aviacão and served in a similar capacity with Morro Vermelho Taxi Aereo LTDA.

Sacramento earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of São Paulo in São Carlos and recently completed Master of Business Administration studies at Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo. “Adriano and Raquel are experienced in many facets of product support,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “They have the technical background and the communication skills necessary to build relationships with customers. We believe they will have an immediate impact and help take our customer service and support in the region to new heights.”

Gulfstream Brazil, located approximately 60 miles (97 kilometers) from São Paulo, comprises a 24,000-square-foot (2,230-square-meter) hangar that can accommodate a mix of four to six large- and mid-cabin aircraft, and also includes nearly 8,000 square feet (743 square meters) of offices and a 3,000-square-foot (279-square-meter) bonded parts warehouse. The facility’s staff includes nine avionics and mechanical technicians, and is certified to perform maintenance, repairs and alterations on all Brazil-registered Gulfstream aircraft. Gulfstream technicians certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration can service U.S.-registered company aircraft off-site. In the last several months, Gulfstream has increased its parts and materials inventory in Brazil to approximately $15 million. Parts are stocked on-site at Gulfstream Brazil and in São Paulo at Morro Vermelho Taxi Aereo LTDA.
