A steady surge of growth throughout the second quarter has propelled Dubai International’s (DXB) half yearly traffic to 27.9 million passengers, just 1.2 million shy of the airport’s total annual traffic last year. This is good growth for the airport putting back on a normal trajectory.

Pittsburgh International Airport is currently engaging in a pilot project involving delivery robots. PIT’s xBridge Innovation Center is the airport’s tech proving ground for technologies and startups that provide solutions for the industry and beyond. Drawing from the region’s strong innovation economy, the airport is a proof-of-concept site for technologies in a real-world operating environment, as well as a pilot site for companies’ first deployments. Volunteer passengers will be able to order and receive beverages at designated drop-off points in PIT’s Airside Terminal. The product is the first fully autonomous robot for deliveries inside airports and is currently deployed at multiple airports in the U.S. and Europe.

News is that there was a protest inside Brussels Airport by passengers who were supposed to be on a flight heading to Cameroon. The flight was cancelled which led to the protest.

On December 7th, at approximately 11:30 UTC, Brussels Airlines flight SN369 departed BRU. The flight was bound for Cameroon's Douala International Airport (DLA). Roughly 30 minutes into the flight at flight level 310 over Southern France, the pilots decided to turn back to BRU after noticing a technical malfunction aboard the aircraft. The aircraft in question was an Airbus A330 registered OO-SFX. Upon nearing BRU, the pilots were instructed to enter a holding pattern. The aircraft remained in this holding pattern for nearly three hours before landing at BRU at approximately 15:35 UTC. (simpleflying.com)

London Stansted's lone runway is to be fully resurfaced. The rehabilitation work will be done across a five-month programme. 1,300 runway lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LEDs which are brighter and longer lasting. Work will be carried out five nights a week between Saturday and Wednesday. In the first 11 weeks, the runway will be closed between midnight and 6am, while in phase two it will remain open but at a reduced length to allow flights to safely continue operating. Stansted's runway last underwent full resurfacing in 2006.

United Airlines and Houston Airport System (HAS) have invested more than $2.5bn in the airline’s Terminal B Transformation Program to construct 40 new gates at the city’s main airport. Phil Griffith, United’s vice-president of the airport, said: "This investment further supports United’s position as Houston’s carrier of choice. On behalf of our more than 14,000 employees who call Houston home, I can’t wait to continue to do all we can to serve our customers flying to, from and through our hub on more than 400 flights each day." It will be significant addition of terminal space and gates. The Terminal B North expansion will see the creation of a 765,000ft² concourse housing 22 narrow-body gates and a new United Club airport lounge, the largest in the airline’s system, while the Terminal B South investment will convert 30 existing gates designed for 50-seat regional jets to accommodate larger two-class regional jets.
