Japan has had a tough start to the new year with a 7.6 magnitude earthquake affecting the Ishikawa prefecture on the first day of the year. Now on the second day of the year, an Airbus A350-900 operated by Japan Airlines burst into flames on landing at Haneda International Airport. It is believed it collided with a Japanese Coast guard plane.
That was some lucky pax and crew on that A-350, nobody died.. Looks like the Dash-8 entered the runway without a clearance, then sat on the centerline for 45 seconds waiting for a takeoff clearance while the Airbus landed on top of him at 125 knots. Some pilots now think the HUD’s on the A-350 was a factor, they kind of block the view and should not be needed when the weather is clear, day or night. Sounds right to me, hard to see a parked airplane from behind on a dark runway with bright lights from the runway edges, the taxiways, the terminals, etc., blinding the landing pilots, then the HUDs on top of that. All the holes in the Swiss cheese lined up and the Coast Guard guys paid for it with their lives, damn…
More news are coming out: It took 8 minutes before the A-350 crew started the evacuation, with the aircraft on fire… Inexcusable
