Cabin Fire Responsible For Grounding Of SF50 Fleet A cabin fire in a Cirrus SF50 Vision personal jet caused a Service Bulletin to be issued resulting in the grounding of all in-service aircraft of the type at the time. The mandatory service bulletin was issued by Cirrus themselves but by the 14th of February the U.S-based Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an emergency airworthiness directive. Cirrus notes that the majority of SF50 owners/operators complied with the bulletin but noted that about 3% did not heed.
The fire that occurred onboard a Cirrus SF50 took place at the end of 2019. The majority of aircraft that complied with the bulletin now have their aircraft back in service according to reports. The problem stems from 12 circuit cards that are responsible for audio and microphone functions to the 3,5mm jacks in the cabins. "It affects every SF50 in operation and needs to be complied with immediately. This means no flights are permitted - other than special flight ferry permit flights until the 12 circuit cards have been removed from the aircraft", Cirrus says. It will take approximately take 8 hours to remove the interior panels, source the cards and remove them then put back the interior together. The work can be done at Cirrus factory or by authorized Cirrus Centers and even by mobile Cirrus teams.
