  1. Cessna Citation Excel; XLS Garmin G5000 Flight Deck Upgrade
The market is heating up for older generation business jets to have their flight decks overhauled and upgraded to modern avionics suites. The latest to be a candidate for upgrades is the Cessna Citation Excel and XLS models using the Garmin G5000 staggered touchscreen three-panel layout. These upgrades are expected to be available for retrofit in 2018 pending FAA approval. The upgrade is also expected to shed around 200 lbs of weight as well.
  2. Once certified, the Garmin G5000 touchscreen upgrade will be available at select Garmin dealers and Textron Service Centers. Three 14-inch high-resolution displays in landscape orientation are managed by two touchscreen controllers, and the engine indication system is displayed on the center multifunction display. The displays offer Garmin’s multi-pane layout, which can be customized by each pilot to show maps, charts, checklists, TAWS, TCAS, flight plan information, weather and more, according to Garmin. Buyers can opt for Jeppesen Chartview terminal charts; Garmin’s FliteCharts and SafeTaxi diagrams are standard. ADS-B OUT is also standard, as is TAWS-A alerting. Of course you can add on optional features to the suite. Many of those options include: synthetic vision; Connext wireless cockpit connectivity; turbulence detection and ground clutter suppression digital weather radar; wind shear alerting; SiriusXM weather; global weather and text/voice via Iridium satcom; active and passive traffic surveillance (TCAS II/ACAS II); SurfaceWatch runway advisories; and Data Comm, including Link 2000+ and CPDLC.
