Cosmic One, An All-Electric Aircraft From Cosmic Aerospace A relatively new Colorado-based company called Cosmic Aerospace back in Mid-2026 unveiled a new all-electric aircraft called Cosmic One. The Cosmic One is envisioned as a premium four-seat all-electric aircraft designed specifically to be certified under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) new MOSAIC rules. Back then in July, the company also named Centennial Flyers -one of the largest flight clubs in the United States- as its first U.S. launch customer.
The announcement also came right after the FAA announced the new MOSAIC rules. These new rules are seen as the biggest update to small aircraft certification in more than twenty years. MOSAIC moves to performance-based standards, allows up to four seats, and for the first time clears the way for electric aircraft to be factory-built and certified. It's designed to strengthen safety while opening the door to modern technology like electric propulsion.
That change resets the economics and the timeline of building an airplane. Certifying a new aircraft with a new propulsion system under Part 23 can take close to a decade and hundreds of millions of dollars. Under MOSAIC, Cosmic aims to certify Cosmic One and deliver first units within three years. "Until now, certification has been the biggest barrier to bringing advanced electric aircraft to market. The physics for electric aviation has worked for years. What held it back was certification economics. MOSAIC changes that, and we designed Cosmic One specifically for this pathway", said Christopher Chahine, cofounder and CEO of Cosmic Aerospace.
To give an idea of the size of the aircraft, it will have a 49-foot wingspan be able to fly 250-knots at maximum space and have a range of up to 250 nautical miles plus VFR reserves. 4,400 lbs maximum take off weight and be able to climb 2,000 fpm are some of the performance figures for the aircraft so far. Propelling the Cosmic One will be 6 independent electric propulsors that are embedded in the wings close to the fuselage. The Cosmic program has been focused on proving out some of the technology on smaller demonstrators. The announcement of the Cosmic One is natural progression from two smaller demonstrators that the company used to test its propulsion architecture. The CX-2 first flew back in February 2025 to give an idea the timeline. That demonstrated used 32 embedded electric motors at the time. First flight of the Cosmic One is being targeted for 2028.
