  1. First Citation XLS With Garmin G5000 Cockpit Flies
With STC expected in early 2019, Garmin is moving ahead with heavy testing of their G5000 integrated flight deck for the Cessna Citation XLS. Garmin retrofitted a Citation XLS with the G5000 system and it flew for the first time last week. The first flight lasted just over 100 minutes. Pilots of the Citation XLS will soon enjoy three 14-inch displays and according to Garmin will provide up to 150 lbs of weight savings.
  2. Once STC approval has been gained, owners and operators of the Cessna Citation XLS will be able to get the retrofit at Textron Aviation Services Centers and select Garmin dealers. The G5000 integrated flight deck features three high-resolution, 14-inch flight displays with multi-pane capability, allowing pilots to simultaneously view maps, charts, checklists, TAWS, TCAS, flight plan information, weather and more. Through integration of the crew alerting system (CAS), autopilot control is relocated to the glareshield. Two pedestal-mounted touchscreen display/controllers serve as the primary crew interface for the system, offering an intuitive graphical menu to simplify cockpit tasks. The 116-minute flight took place Monday, February 26 at Garmin’s Olathe Flight Test Facility, located on the New Century AirCenter (KIXD) airport near Olathe, Kansas.
