  1. HEAT Facility Online For Hermeus
Hermeus currently is working on testing demonstrators for supersonic and eventually hypersonic flight. They are at the stage of using their MK-1 Quarterhorse Demonstrator which is coming to the top end of its testing before they transition to MK-2 Quarterhorse to test the vehicle pass MACH 2. Powering the craft is the Pratt & Whitney F100 engine. Hermeus says that there is a shortage of hypersonic test facilities and those that are available are booked up solid so they started to build their own. The HEAT facility is an acronym for High Enthalpy Air-Breathing Test and they have opened the first phase of this facility for testing the F100 engine.
  2. The facility is not exactly new but Hermeus is upgrading and adding to it to suit their needs. You can find it at the Cecil Airport in Jacksonville, Florida. The former Cecil Naval Air Station had some legacy infrastructure that Hermeus is building upon including an old 'hush house' and testing cells. This has allowed Hermeus to start engine testing in less than 3 months from 'breaking ground'.
  3. “In just three months since breaking ground, HEAT has come online and is positioned to unlock low-cost, high-capability propulsion testing that will support the delivery of hypersonic aircraft before the end of the decade,” said Hermeus co-founder and CEO A.J. Piplica. “Current hypersonic test facilities are booked a year or more in advance and are prohibitively expensive. HEAT will alleviate capacity limitations, offer more affordable options, and establish itself as a critical national resource for hypersonic testing.”
