Vietnam Airlines will order General Electric engines to power its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, according to Vietnamese government officials. The order is due to be formally announced next month in Brunei, Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Industry and Trade for Vietnam, told Reuters news agency. For the 787 deal, "President Obama wants to witness the signing ceremony in Brunei," Hoang said. General Electric declined to comment. Boeing said that Vietnam Airlines has existing orders for eight 787s and will receive another 11 through leasing companies. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said he wanted to formally announce the details of the engine deal on Friday, but the White House had asked for the delay until October. Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier, has a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing jets and has ordered both the Boeing 787 and its future competitor, the Airbus A350. It has also expressed interest in the Airbus A380 superjumbo. (Reuters)

A new and revised livery has been created for Spanish carrier Iberia. The first major change in livery for a while. Iberia has retained the bold red and gold which feature on the Spanish flag but has simplified the overall livery. The fuselage will be largely white, in contrast to the current colour scheme, and the familiar 'IB' logo on the vertical fin is being ditched. The first Iberia A333 has been painted already in the new colours and the new livery will be introduced from November, 2013.
