    I can't tell You how much I loved my Cessna 525A Citation Jet CJ2. It was my first own private jet and I always flew it single pilot. Easy to fly, easy to maintain, good performance and most of all for me as a European operator, it was below 12.500 lbs max T/O weight. Much easier rules, lower costs. Up to that day, we had only flown King Air 200 and 300 and before that, Cessna twins like the 402 B with piston engines and later the Cessna 441 Conquest II.

    I flew the CJ2 regulary in and out of 3.000 ft runways of smaller, uncontrolled airfields. With the thrust attenuators, you had no problem with the engine spool up time in the case of a go-around. I admit, I had several cases, where I did a little perjury, when filling in the weight and balance sheet, as the payload of the fully refuelled aircraft was not very big. Fortunately, all of that is now statute-barred. But the advantages of flying in the German D-I (below 5.700 kg / 12.500 lbs) class were much bigger than the limited payload problem at longer range flights. I never had any engine problems and I never needed any technical assistance during strange field landings.

    The best thing was my work around procedure, when taking my family to Mallorca (a 900 nm + Flight) over the weekend. Palma Intl. Airport (LEPA) was very expensive for landing fees and ground handling. So, I asked on long final, when coming from the north-east (which was 90 % of all approaches) for a swingover to the old town airport of Son Bonet (LESP). Much lower costs, very easy ground ops and best of all, they always had a hangar space for the aircraft.

    But then Cessna stopped the production of my beloved bird and later Cessna cancled the European dealer system. My local Cessna dealer near Bremen (Atlas Air Service) was one of the best business partners, I ever had. I was so upset about these decisions, I sold my CJ-2 and never bought any aircraft from Cessna again. Eccept for my two biplanes with radial engines, I only fly European built aircraft and helicopters now.

    The good old times, where love was save and flying dangerous. Today it is just the other way around :).
