The details of what really happened are still murky, but what we do know is the owner of a video-camera-equipped Hexacopter flying near the scene of a car accident in Springfield, Ohio, earlier this week was charged with felony obstruction after police said he refused to land his UAV even as a medevac helicopter prepared to touch down.

"I'm not an idiot," 31-year-old Kele Stanley told the Associated Press after being arrested, saying he would have landed his remote-controlled craft immediately had he known the medical helicopter was en route. (FLYING)

The Airbus Corporate Foundation and its partners JetBlue and Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help (LOG) have transported 10 tonnes of medical supplies, blankets, sheets and toys from Hamburg, Germany to Haiti. The humanitarian aid was loaded on an A321 which was delivered to JetBlue. The plane took off from the Airbus in Hamburg, heading for Port-au–Prince, Haiti.

The supplies will be distributed to people in need in Haiti, many of whom are children. The donations were collected by the German NGO Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen (Wings of Help) and include cholera medication, sheets, clothing and toys.

“JetBlue is honoured to partner with the Airbus Corporate Foundation and Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen to bring relief to the people of Haiti. Port-au-Prince is a new JetBlue destination, and it is always important for us to support the communities we serve. Besides the humanitarian material Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen has sourced to put onboard our new A321, JetBlue will also donate almost 2,000 books to improve literacy, build a well for an orphanage school and provide 1,500 female hygiene products to a local girls’ orphanage,” said JetBlue CSR Director Icema Gibbs.

Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen President Frank Franke said: “Our renewed help for the victims of the devastating earthquake in 2010 has the highest priority and it is especially important to us to aid the cholera-stricken patients who still today lack the proper medicine and antibiotics they need.”

Andrea Debbané, Executive Director of the Airbus Corporate Foundation, said: “We are proud that the Airbus Corporate Foundation and its partners contribute to humanitarian causes in a very tangible way. Since December 2008, the Airbus Corporate Foundation has facilitated more than 36 relief and aid flights to numerous destinations all over the globe. This latest flight demonstrates Airbus’ continued commitment to supporting people in need.“

In recent years, Airbus has built up a global network of airlines and relief organisations to support international humanitarian causes. Delivery flights of new, to-be-delivered aircraft have been used on numerous occasions to transport goods to populations in need all over the world.

The Airbus Corporate Foundation was created in December 2008 to facilitate charitable activities worldwide within an international network of employees and partners. The organisation focuses its support on three themes: humanitarian and community support, youth development and the environment.

Factor 50 won’t protect this sunbather from the rubber tyres of a plane that nearly crash-landed on his back. This holidaymaker got the shock of his life as he soaked up rays on a beach in Heligoland, an island in northern Germany. Pilot Juergen Drucker, 52, came within inches of colliding with the man as he flew his Piper PA-28-181 Archer II along the coast. Seconds after passing over the man the plane hit a fence and then ploughed across a section of the beach before coming to rest on the runway. (metro.co.uk)

JetBlue Airways on Saturday apologized to a mother who said her child had to urinate in her airplane seat because a flight attendant would not let her use the restroom while the plane sat on the tarmac at a New York Airport.

"Our team reached out directly to the customer today to offer an apology for her experience," said a JetBlue statement issued by spokesman Sebastian White. Jennifer Devereaux told WBZ-TV in Boston that she was denied a request to let her three-year-old daughter use the bathroom while the plane was delayed in taking off from John F. Kennedy International Airport on a flight to Boston. After a half-hour wait, the toddler urinated in the seat. "It wasn't about bad customer service, it was about human decency." Devereaux said of the incident.

A passenger was killed and the captain nearly struck by a bullet on Tuesday night as gunmen opened fire on an airliner landing at the main airport in Peshawar, Pakistan. According to news reports, a female passenger sitting next to her daughter died in the attack and two flight attendants were injured when at least 10 bullets struck the Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A310 with nearly 200 aboard as it approached the airport after flying from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Girls and young women who allege they were sexually abused by a British Airways pilot in African schools and orphanages plan to sue the airline, a law firm representing them said on Wednesday. Lawyers argue that BA should be held responsible for the actions of First Officer Simon Wood who carried out the alleged crimes during stopovers in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Wood, 54, was found dead after being hit by a train in August 2013, two weeks before he was due in court on charges of indecent assault and making indecent photos of a child.

"We allege that Wood was able to abuse the victims, by reason of his employment with the airline, in particular through his involvement with the airlines’ community relations work," said Nichola Marshall, a lawyer at Leigh Day which is representing 16 alleged victims aged from eight to 20. "The schools and orphanages that our clients attended were all in receipt of charitable donations from the airline, and Wood played a key role in administering those donations, on behalf of British Airways."

A team from the law firm would meet other possible victims in Kenya and Uganda in the coming weeks, she said. "We were shocked and horrified to hear the allegations against Simon Wood, which appear to relate to his involvement in child-related activities entirely outside the scope of his employment with British Airways," BA said in a statement.

A Qantas flight between Canberra and Perth was put off balance during take off after more than 80 schoolchildren seated at the rear of the plane were assigned the adult weight of 87 kilograms instead of the correct child weight of 32 kilograms. The pilot found the plane was "heavy-nosed" during take off and was forced to exceed the safe take off speed by about 25 knots, an investigation has found.
