Remember this incident towards the end of 2019? It appears that consideration is being made by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) to fine Textron Aviation for the late-year explosion that injured a number of Textron employees at Plant 3 on their Eastern Campus in Wichita. OSHA is alleging that Textron, "failed to protect employees from autoclave explosion hazards." OSHA continues that the failure of Autoclave 8, "resulted in an explosion that critically injured 15, exposing employees to amputation, broken bone, concussion, crushing, laceration, and struck-by hazards." A proposed $13,949 fine has been put forward by OSHA.

Did you guys and gals catch this in the news? There was a race between two Cessna Citation Jets. One was a flat wing unmodified CJ reg N741CC vs one that has Tamarack ACTIVE winglets installed reg N44VS. The race took place on the 26th of January 2021 and the modified winglet CJ landed first with notable less fuel burn despite headwinds. Both aircraft departed Portland, Maine (PWM) and were bound for West Palm Beach, Florida (PBI). The unmodified CJ was forced to pitstop for fuel on the way while the modified wingleted version made the trip direct and landed with 155 gallons less fuel burned compared to the other aircraft.

When driving past the Textron Aviation Headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, you might sometimes be surprised to see haybales sitting on the property. Or, maybe you won’t notice, given the surrounding Kansas prairie. Either way, the hay isn’t going in any aircraft, and there aren’t cattle hiding in the facilities. Textron Aviation Headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, you might sometimes be surprised to see haybales sitting on the property. Or, maybe you won’t notice, given the surrounding Kansas prairie. Either way, the hay isn’t going in any aircraft, and there aren’t cattle hiding in the facilities. Textron Aviation, which has called Kansas home since Cessna was founded in 1927 and Beechcraft in 1932, proudly works with local Kansas farmers to cut and bale hay on the company property. It is a unique relationship between the farmer and Textron Aviation.

Behind every powerful woman is another woman who inspired them. As we close out Women’s History Month, three employees talk about the legendary women who motivate them to fearlessly charge forward in their careers. Laure Puntel-DeCarlo, a purchasing specialist, feels inspired by Joan of Arc for her ability to stand up against all odds for what is right. Pili Barker, a leader in Special Missions, admires the Co-founder of Beech Aircraft Corporation Olive Ann Beech because she opened doors for other women in aviation and her legacy lives on in women at Textron Aviation today.

Whether you’re flying in a legendary Cessna Citation Longitude or Cessna Skyhawk, chances are you will need an AMT for aircraft maintenance. These maintenance professionals are responsible for keeping aircraft flying around the world. Monday, May 24, 2021, was National AMT Day, aligning with the birth of Charles Taylor, a close friend to the Wright Brothers and the world’s first powered aircraft mechanic.

t was a high school physics teacher who told Victoria Mattingly she had a knack for science that encouraged her to consider Electrical Engineering. In many cases, it only takes a push from a mentor or a spark inside oneself that leads in an exciting new direction. "It’s these women and the important contributions they make on a daily basis that inspire the next generation of female leaders to join us as the innovators of tomorrow", Maggie Topping, Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Communications. Victoria is quick to compliment Textron Aviation on its commitment to diversity and for advancement across the corporation, particularly for women in Engineering. "There have always been opportunities for women who show they can do the work," Victoria said. "You have to be able to do the job and if you do, you can get the job you want."

More and more women are counting themselves lucky to have encouragement from an early age to pursue STEM-related careers. Others may not have that support and they get where they are going through sheer determination. That is Natalie Petrick’s story. Natalie is an Engineer in the structural integrity department and is part of the Denali development team. She discovered Structural Engineering during an internship rotation at Textron’s Bell Helicopter, while pursuing an Aerospace Engineering degree at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). She knew that was the path she wanted to follow and like many other choices she’s made in life, she applied her own determination and self-reliance to go for it.

Long-time customers David and Patty Miller love their Cessna Citation Mustang, but it was time for an interior refresh and other upgrades. When they were ready to take the leap, they knew exactly where to take it for a makeover.
